Without fail, always see these youngsters jio-ing ppl to go for interviews for quick talents...be a model etc etc....heard that these modelling agencies are out to cheat innocent ppls' $$$ by asking them to do a make-over profile with them...
anyone really kena spotted and went for the so-called interview? Any results?? -

Mannequin, has the past 3 male and 2 female models of the year.
Diva, old school. Brings in alot of imports from brazil and argentina. Mostly catwalk.
Elite,which recently revamped and is now called Looque models. Local flavour.
Ave, has the current male model of the year and alot of lanky female foreigners
Upfront does more face, does some big jobs now and then also.
Shiny Happy People does commercials.
and a few others I cant really remember off hand.
Anything else like McModels to XYZ models isnt worth your time.
p.s. russell wong does good portfolios. PR is impt. -

How abt those "agencies" that ask ppl to do make-over portfolios??...seems like they aren't really recruiting models other than earning $$$ from those innocent young fellas whom were cheated into doing portfolios with them...
A few agencies to be mentioned here are i model and quick talents...think thye're out to cheat money... -
Of course they are out to make money. Who wouldnt? Almost every youth in sg wants to be a model. If you have to pay for the makeover portfolio, chances are, it could be crap.
Most serious scouting agencies have their own in-house make up artists. You will prob pay for the printing and the plastic portfolio itself, but that doesnt come up too much. -

Most of these so-called agencies just want your photo on a portfolio so they can distribute it to prospective agents and make money.
My friend had a bad encounter with one. They promised a free portfolio (but of course nothing is ever free) as long as you go for a shoot. Everything was arranged via email and sms.
When she realised that there were poses in skimpy underwear such as corsets, she pulled out and sms-ed the camera man.
The response from that cameraman was extremely disturbing. He started off by calling her rude and inconsiderate for cancelling and followed up with subsequent SMSes that became more abusive with words like 'pathetic' and 'you better watch out'. I thought that was openly threatening.
This is the kind of people out there who are just out snap you and make a quite buck. Personally, that was bordering on harassment and if he had followed up, i would have suggested to my friend to take punitive action against him.
Really disgusting the way some people work. -

the bigger agencies dont charge for a portfolio usually but they do take quite a large percentage of the earnings. ( up to about 25 % recently)
Hope your friend managed to get things resolved. The top models normally work in sg for a while then leave for more exposure cos honestly, you can get big clients in sg but most other jobs pay peanuts.
And sg currently has an infatuation with european and pan asian foreign models. Some of them are really quite ugly.

well....sometimes lessons are learnt the hard way round...as long as no one get hurt, that's the most impt thing...jie cai bie jie se (cheated of $$$ but not body)
