I am not condoning any horrific acts but just sharing my opinion on the fact that Lawyer can't meet accused.
Note to all would be criminals:
You are in Singapore, not hollywood or Hong Kong. You cannot say "I want to meet my lawyer first" when you are caught by the police.
In his ruling, Judge explained that it was the duty of the court to .....and the police's need to "protect the public by conducting complete and thorough investigations"
Sounds like Leong could have an accompliance or the police is afraid that the lawyers will be negatively influenced by Leong and harm the public or that the lawyer might help Leong break jail.
"Taking into account the circum of the case, the judged ruled that Leong's interest would not "be compromised by the lack of access to his counsel"
I suspect Leong is a lawyer turned factory supervisor... else how would the judge knows if his interest (rights) will not be compromised?
Also, I remember glancing an article yesterday or the day before on some minister congratulating the police for finding the suspect within 1 day - Seems to be over honoring the police. Its just a suspect. I think its better to leave the congratulation till he is proven guilty.
Cross-referenced to the CAO case. Yes its quite different crimed, but isn't Singapore a fair country(supposedly)? Funny that the non-exec CAO directors are allowed to leave Singapore when it is 99% obvious they will never come back?
Wonder if there is any lawyers in this forum to further englighten us and to correct my misconception of the fair and just legal system in Singapore?
