microsoft outlook

hi peeps, i need some technical advice from you guys.
i'm currently using Microsoft Outlook for my primary email. however is there a way to tick the software so that i could recieve 'warnig' or 'alerts" that i have a new mail should i be doing other things instead of at the microsoft outlook program. something like the msn messenger, when there's a new email, a small alert window will appear at the bottom right corner teling u that u have a new email that kind of stuff.
anyone can help?many thanks -
There is such an alert feature within Outlook, but you've got to let the application remain open for it to work.
1. Open Outlook.
2. Tools > Options > Preferences > E-mail Options > Advanced E-mail Options
3. Under "When new items arrive in my Inbox", check the desired alert options.
Now you could minimise Outlook, let it run in the background while you carry on with your work on other applications.

As mentioned, Outlook must remain open for the alert feature to work. It can be minimised and left running in the background, but not closed.
Even for MSN Messenger, you have to leave it running in the background to receive the message alerts. -
btw is there a function i must enable to set the microsoft outlook to auto recieve?

jus another question, is there an option for me to change the sound of the alert? sorry that i have so many questions. quite a newbie when it comes to Microsoft Outlook.

No problem.
1. Click the "Start" button at your taskbar and open Control Panel.
2. Open Sounds and Audio Devices.
3. Under Sound, change sound for "New Mail Notification" under Program Events. -
