Make Poverty History
The G8 countries will be holding a summit in Scotland from July 6th to July 8th, to address world issues, with special focus on global warming and poverty in Africa.

As this year's focus is on eliminating poverty in Africa through writing off debt completely and changing trade laws to favour developing countries, there is a glimpse of hope that we can halve poverty by 2015. That is, if the G8 leaders agree to do so.
Pope Benedict has urged the G8 leaders to do so. So has Nelson Mandela, Kofi Annan and Bill Gates.
The governments will listen if the people voice out, this has been proven. -

by the way, the one in 1985 is Live AID, this time round is LIVE 8, little difference cause that time is to raise funds, this time is to pressurise the G8 leaders, anyway, great effort, My respect to all which contributed to the whole thing, watched the concert till 3plus b4 i buay tahan

I'm not sure if any of you know this. But a couple of decades ago, Canadian Prime Minister Lester Pearson suggested that all developed countries should contribute 7 percent of their nation's GDP to developing countries. Until today, it has yet to be done, by anyone.
One of the things Geldof is trying to do is to get our current PM, Paul Martin to act on it. The Financial Minister (who was attending the concert in Toronto)came out and said, it will be done...by 2015. So she's pretty much saying that it'll never happen.
You guys in Singapore have never experienced this because you've never actually seen a true change in power but new governments don't actually act on what was promised in previous administrations.
