  Dun like to reply this ppl of useless thread but since today i am not in a gd mood, i just add in to flame for fun. The way she/he talks make me feel she is still inmature. Either she wants to act high class to gain attention or he just want ppl to flame her/him. I think she need to wake up from her F@#$@ dream.Grow up kid,u still live in wonderland is it???   Actually I feel to help ppl more understand, the person who post in hokkien must put 1 to 4 after each word so that we can get the pronunciation rite then easier to translate. You ppl are great in translating the rest. Keep it up! There is hope for hokkien language afterall! At least I know it won't go extinct for a while as long as there are still people talking and using it

  That is my intention. Afterall ain't chinese teachers now teach kids chinese using ping ying? We can do likewise to hokkien. This will ensure they can pick hokkien up easily.

  I dun think speaking hokkien.. even cantonese or other dialect is rude or low class.. they have their own dialect culture wat.. as long as they dun scold bad words tats quite gd already..

  Actually I am ashamed to admit whenever I wanna pick up a new language, I wanna learn the bad words first so just in case someone use that language to scold me I know what it means and not to nod head smile at them as though they are praising me

  why enemy? cos our forst language should be our mother tongue, not english, considered as foreign tongue.. even switzerland (all time fav example) uses the 3 mothertongue as administrative language despite the ppl know ing english as a common language.. LKY, if u remembered, ended the chinese-medium schools regime, and forced every1 to take english as a first language and mother tongue as second.. now, after many years, ppl are getting very bad in mother tongue, esp chinese, and government have to come out with "SPEAK MANDARIN" and 'SPEAK GOOD ENGLISH CAMPAIGN" means chinese and english are not to standards..
  
  k i also agree with you for not happy that melayu is the national language, but its for historical reasons with very little or no effet on singaore now.

  Whatever it is, we should respect every dialect group. Just that to some people, me included, Hokkien sounds crass compared to other dialect. It's just my personal sentiment. Anyway, I've no idea why Hokkien's more commonly spoken than other dialect. For a start, teochew sounds so much more refined, though it sounds about the same as Hokkien. The accent just sounds more pleasing on the ears. And again, that's my own sentiment. What do you guys think? For me, whenever someone speaks to me in Hokkien, I'll repy them in Mandarin or Teochew, even though I know how to speak Hokkien.

  generally ppl always say the Hokkien very Chor lor (errr sory how to interpret??) the cantonese girl very fierce..teow chew very boastful...
  
  now i don't think much about chor lor or not...in fact find hokkien actually also sound very nice le....
