Link between psychological problems and demonic possessions

I was reading an article on the internet about the alleged 1949 exorcism of a boy which was inspired the movie The Exorcist. The article suggested that There may be a link between metal disorders and so called demonic possessions. We know mental disorders are real and science has progressed to explain why this phenomena exists.But the other phenomena demonic possessessions are still speculative.
The 2 could be related or one causing the other. Demonic possessessions could be real but what causes them could be psychological too. Everday our minds are getting bombarded with tons of informaton around us. The sights and sounds we experience and the corresponding thoughts could somehow cause a mental imbalance in our brains. Society , upbringing and instilled values particularly superstitions could also play a huge part too.When the film The Exorcist was released back in the early 1970's, hundreds and hundreds of cinema-goers believed themselves to be possessed . In most cases demonic possessions seem to resemble symptoms of mental disorders and the the alleged exorcisms seem to closely resemble ancient treatments for mental disorder particulalry the power of suggestion before modern medicine came about
Seizures and convulsions are symptoms of epilepsy. Personality changes can indicate hysteria, or schizophrenia, or other psychological malfunctions. The point of the issue is not to debunk any theories regarding religious beliefs or the medical profession. A thought which lingers in our minds is te 2 phenomenon could be the one and the same. The devil, as they call it which can enter our bodies and minds could well be a inherent psychological problem which manifests itself under the right environmental situations as a demonic possession, a term and ideas which were conceived by pseudoscientists with a religious agenda to the belief that there is a constant war being waged between God and the Devil for our souls.
If the above points are valid, there could be truth to the saying afterall that there is the devil in everyone of us and it could very well be real -

depending on where you come from, they can be one and the same, or two rather indentical but seperate anomalies.
certain religions believe that psychological problems are based more in the spirit than in the physical realm...on the other hand, science works in what is measureable, and what can be qualified and proven, at least to a certain extent, so, it believes that psychological problems occur as a manifestation of congenital defects, neuro defects, and the like...
for me though, i believe in the former, but believe in treating it in the way of the latter. drugs are not the way to go, but they are a stop-gap measure, psycho therapy or counselling on the other hand, only half works because it is not tackling the root of the problem. religious methods on the other hand, are hard to measure, and not very well understood, because alot of it relies heavily on faith, and not physical properties. as such, we fear the unknown and and we always try to remove that fear, leading to it being pushed away, and never really properly understood... -
