Extracted from another forum. Thought it might be useful to those handphone users. I've tried it, it works on my Motorola V3.

To check your mobile phone's serial number, key in the following on your phone:

and a fifteen digit code will appear on the screen. (This is unique to your handset).
Write it down and keep it safe. Should your mobile phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code.
They will then be able to block your handset, so even if the thief changes the sim card, your phone will be totally useless.
You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use / sell it either.
If everybody did this, there would be no point in stealing mobile phones.
Send this to as many people with mobiles as possible.
Does not work on CDMA AS THESE PHONES ARE SHUT DOWN AS SOON AS YOU REPORT THEM STOLEN. -

yes, this service can be provided by the telco
but are u going to pay for it?
as far as i know from the time when i was working in telco, they will oni do this if it involves legal issues.......u need police report, u need permit and a whole ton of red tape

Back to the qn, of course, I'm not going to pay. My $$$ is well worth somewhere else. I'm just sharing some info which may interests the consumers. -

seriously most frens of mine who lost their handphone just cancel their plan and within a few days gets a new one.its too troublesome to do all those stuff.
