i wont donate anymore until something is done to nkf's 262 million reserves. i am sure this amount alone is enough to help many organisations. it shouldnt be left sitting in the banks.

Donation to the above charities and other charities not mentioned above and never mentioned by anyone (because of the lack of money to purchase air time and space) can be done easily via NCSS' Online Donation Portal - www.donation.org.sg. Credit card are accepted. Tax relief can be automatically claim if you provide your tax reference number. I've been doing this for a number of years already. Receipt will be sent to you via physical post if requested.
You can even donate away your ERS using this portal. -

Our Home will be organising a Fund Raising Walkathon On 8 October 2005.
Volunteers are needed to help us raise funds via Pledge Cards.
As a voluntary welfare organisation (VWO), Ju Eng Home is committed to accept up to 90% of subsidised/destitute cases which are referred by the Ministry of Health (MOH) through its Integrated Care Service (ICS). A minority of full-paying non-subsidized cases may be accepted up to 10% of residents.
All cases which require subsidy are processed and assessed through ICS. Integrated Care Service (ICS) tel: 6357- 7686. -

actually now that all these other charities are brought up...it leads me to wonder. why does the NKF keep starting new charities when it can simply form a union with the rest of the charities? won't starting a new charity simply cost more, and possibly deprive the current charities of neccessary funds?

it so hard for those sick to get help from these org.
we should centralise all donation to one pool, in ministry of Finance,
get all respective VWO / NPO to ask on behalf of their beneficiary.
then see how MOF check all their last 8 generation history before give out S$ 150.00 per month to one poor sick man.
and also all sick / medical / social beneficiary , should also centralise they data
one click can read who give how much to him and when. -

Society for the Physically Disabled. I've done volunteer work there before a long time ago - back in 1999.
Back in 1999 their premises was pretty bare-bones, albeit clean, neat, and highly presentable. I dunno about now, though I won't be surprised if it were still the same. Show your support for them.

I feel sad to say I can't help but agree with Glen999 and dragg on this issue. If the NKF fiasco has been allowed to go unchecked all this time, I find it hard to believe there is no such thing going on in other charities, especially the bigger ones. While many in Singapore (such as dragg) countinue to donate (to NKF) even after they got retranched, pay cut, no bonus, cannot find jobs.. some in NKF are collecting 10~12 months bonus... this is screw up man..Originally posted by dragg:i donated even after i lost my job.

already rumours that tsunami relief monies not reaching those who need it....
how to know whether the centralized agency won't abuse his power?
so much more money... so much more "handling"... so much more power and hence.... more corruption.... or questionable practices...
just donate where your heart feels. sometimes, we just need to believe in karma...whether now or later....
it's not tat i dun want to donate to individuals but u see for yourselves, needy people go to these organizations to get help and these organizations need the funds to help them....
other worthy causes tt i donate to:
1. KDF
2. SCS - Cancer Society
3. Singapore Children's Society (but they also becoming bigger with new nice office..so I may not donate in future)
4. Touch Community
5. Community Chest
6. Lions Home
7. Kwong Wai Shu Hospital
8. Salvation Army
9. Society for the Physically Disabled
10. SPCA -
then why not start a place where all needy patients who need help can post their own pleads. This way you know your money will go straight to your patient you want to help and not some dumb guy who takes first class while you had to pay gst for your donation!

then we end up must investigate ourselves whether the people posting genuine anot etc... and how much aid he requires etc...
to give out a std aid of $150 per head as proposed by one forumite is not feasible enough for some.
as u can already see that dialysis costs in the thousands and what abt cancer treatments etc...
i think may end up back to square 1.
better to utilize existing resources and make it work better than to start from ground zero...wasted previous efforts. -
if we know where the patients stay, we can go to their house and offer help directly.

precisely ppl who r too wrapped up in our own world choose monetary donation - easier to "do good".....
But not to say your suggestion is bad...just needs re-education........
