Win98 to Winxp on lower end systems - need advice

  I have this system....
  
  Amd 733 MHZ Cpu
  300+ MB SDram
  40 gig HDD
  Geforce FX
  Creative Live SB sound card
  
  If i upgrade to WIn XP will i see a performance boost or lack? I play moastly games and mulitmedia
  
  please advise those who had similar Computer sepcs and u upgraded to win xp. How is the expereince. thank you.

  XP should run fine. but u must turn off all the fancy stuffs...

  XP pro only need a 300Mhz PC, 128Mb RAM and 1.5Gb Harddisk space to install. You already more than meet the requirements.
  
  I suggest increasing your RAM to 1GB at least if possible, since you play games and do multimedia stuff.

  i am worried about compatibility issues. BTwe my HDD is new only bought a few months ago with a 2mB Cache.

  Doesn't matter that it's OEM RAM. If it works on your PC with 98 now, it'll work on the PC after you install XP.

  1) WINXP uses NTFS and allows u to keep Fat 32 to. Which should i choose for better performance. I dont intend to to a clean install just a upgrade. so can i still use NTFS?
  
  2) Using fat 32winxp on my ststem, will it offer any performance advantages over win98 Fat32?

  I using P3 450Mhz 768MB ram. running windows xp sp2. running fine, just that it is a bit slow. recommend to do a fresh install on NTFS instead of fat 32. NTFS has better security and data protection then FAt32.

  NTFS doesn't give you better performance, just better security. BUT be aware that you could have some problems booting from a floppy to do recovery off an NTFS drive unless you know what you're doing.
  
  As for FAT32... Are you using 98 SE? Either way, no matter what they say on paper, the 98 SE Fat32 and the XP Fat32 is just about identical.

  i think no point. Although winXp claim that kind of resources is needed...it can consume more than what it really need.Furthermore win98 is more stable than win xp I think..or was it win me?

  NTFS have the additional features to encrypt your files for security
  NTFS will make your files slighty larger than FAT32
  FAT32 is preferred for the files to be open for win98 and win95 as both windows cannot support NTFS.
  winxp64 can uses both NTFS and FAT32
  windows 16 bits i believes is win3.0 and win3.11 <-- antique software

  if i have skinny legs, i wldn't want to have an over-developed built...
  ntfs in most daily operation is faster than fat or fat32.
