CCAs in secondary school

there has been so much talk that CCA is to develop skills, knowledge and interest bla bla bla in the areA u r inteerested n at the same time develop leadership skills,teambuilding n sutff...but seriously r they doing that
my school, a christian school is such an example...i can remember when i was in sec2 i tried to join this badminton club...on one of the day i went to their training area asking one of the chers wether i can join...guess wad she said..she said somthing like "i m sorry but this club is for competitive players only"..i was like wtf i have interest in the sport n they dont allow me in....then for next few weeks i tried to go for training hoping they will take me in..guess wad? one of the them ask me to play with a junior...of course being a newbie...i lost......n there go my chances of taking part ina CCA i m intersted in...i tried asking one of the captian n he said the same thing.....
next, i tried going to multimedia club.. n guess wad they want us to take a stupid IT test...
i know i m not good enough for competition but cant they just leave a small grp for us newbies to pick up the sport or our interest?
seriously r schools just looking for reputation for their ccas or really having ccas for the benefit n interest if students.... -

so what if u win with unscrupulous methods? Schools should re-think what CCAs are for. Develop talent? Puis. It ain't the Singapore Sports School. Focus so much on the product for what? Sometimes, i feel that lose lose lah.. students will learn from losing as well what.. perhaps even more then what u can learn from winning. -
seriously speaking in the sports school..lets say for swimming i m sure very few, maybe 1 or 2 can make it to represent spore... wad bout the rest who r not good enough ? be a swimming instructor? wad can they do?

you learn the most from scouts....pioneering & campcraft, outdoor cooking and survival, discipline, interaction + combined meetings with guides etc etc. -

schs r like this nowadays. cos winning brings them glory & $$$ & thus they forget abt letting students have a gd time during their teens. sad

maybe it's just your school. my school certainly doesn't. i mean, if they can take an idiot at sports as me in, they definitely don't have victory in mind...

Some sports very hard to get in cos limited resources eg badminton, the school has only a few badminton courts so only those talented ones get a chance.
U need to take a test before they accept u. So u need to get some practice first so your chances are better.
Check out those team CCA like choir, Chinese orchestra, NCC, dancing, band etc- these can get a lot of CCA points cos they perform in SYF -
my school also like that. the teachers are damn biased towards the talented ppl.

those ccas that dont req ability test r those ccas that no one/few will join. e.g community service club,chinese orchestra. wad i m talking bout r clubs or sports cca that u r interested in....i know uniform grps dont need selection but its not my area of interest -

cca has lost its original meaning. now it takes in students to be used as a tool by the school to win competitions and stuff

im in IT...but i use tis as a advantage to surf web.....right now as im typing im in the school...

CCAs are great....if you join the right one....
e.g. i'm in my school's choir...... Gold with honours in SYF.... Won the overall winner back in Prague last year....that was great experience...maybe the teacher might be "screwed"
but i still enjoyed myself very much wat... -

in JC now.. no more CCA points.. from what i noe of in my JC.. alot prefer to join those less taxing clubs and societies now.. suddenly Audio-Visual and Visual Culture Club, CIP clubs.. damn lot of ppl sign up.. haha
perhaps schools can let students 'rotate' ccas,, for example some weeks join choir.. den change to maybe badminton.. den change around.. Of course it wun apply to those talented. competitive players.. but for some they dun really haf had developed an interest or ability in any specific area.. perhaps still better for them to try new stuff... Join a cca means stuck for 4/5 years.. cant change easily....
