  GP fined, issued with warning after misdiagnosis led to death

  A locum general practitioner (GP) has been fined $10,000 and censured by the Singapore Medical Council for professional misconduct.
  
  A disciplinary committee convicted him on two charges - for wilful neglect of his duties and grossly mismanaging the treatment of a patient.
  
  A nine-year-old boy died after Dr Kong Kok Leong failed to diagnose he was suffering from appendicitis.
  
  The boy was suffering from acute abdominal pain.
  
  His father brought him to see Dr Kong in January 2002 because his condition hadn't improved despite treatment from another GP two days earlier.
  
  Dr Kong examined the patient and diagnosed he was suffering from gastroenteritis.
  
  But the boy's condition got worse.
  
  He collapsed at home and was rushed to hospital where doctors operated on him for a perforated appendix and peritonitis - inflammation of the membranes lining the abdominal wall.
  
  The boy remained critically ill with severe sepsis and multi-organ dysfunction and died nearly three weeks later.

  okz lah hes not good lor but at lesat its not like he did it on purpose or soemthign just mistakes and honest ones which are bound to occur once or twice jsut see the consequences medicine is an art not a science.

  I don't think the GP was intentional. Being a doctor is his rice bowl. Who will break his own rice bowl?
  
  By the way, being a GP is not easy. It is like being your own boss. You have to work almost everyday and when u cannot work (leave or sick), you basically won't be paid.
  
  I don't know for how many years is that GP being censured. If it is too long, I think he will migrate.

  The doc who saw the NS guy, why is not fined or his his right to practice revoked? Any of heard any news about it?..

  The patient's communication with the doctor plays a part. If the patient fails to describe his ailments to the doctor, the doc will unlikely prescribe the write treatment.
