While I am a deep advocator of migration, I advice anyone who has the intention of migrating to test-live in the country for at least 2 months first. As long as one knows how to cook and there is a Chinatown with suitable food supplies, Food is not a problem.

There's no place like home.
Sure you could get used to the senic countryside and the panoramic mountain views and lush natural surroundings, but can you get used to the living conditions?
What do we have that Austria does not?
1. Racial tolerance
2. Food to meet our taste buds (unless you can tahan sandwiches everyday)
3. German language
4. Job competition
5. Cultural integration
Plenty of research is needed before such decisions are made.
And i haven't even added the higher taxes, gahmen policies, union policies etc etc -
I know most people won't consider Malaysia, Thailand or China as ideal places to emigrate but seriously, what's most important to me for a retirement home is a place where my savings can go furthest. My financial advisor has worked out with me...my current savings and investments will allow me to retire fairly comfortably at 50 or more luxuriously at 55 in Malaysia. I will cash out, move across and buy a house in Ipoh or Penang...food is good, can pop to Singapore over a wekend, no problems with culture and cost of living is low. I am going to retire there, not work there...so I don't care if there is racial discrimination for education and work. In any case, I will live in a predominantly Chinese area...
In fact, by living in a cheaper place, I can afford holidays occasionally in Norway and Sweden, something I cannot afford as a retiree in Singapore.. -

You can consider Penang as there is lots of chinese there. austria is quite nice. But if u cant adopt to the culture, then dont bother going...cos u be complaining all the time.
