Have to be fast with chopsticks in getting food all in one big dish on a table for ten. Yet as gentle and able to hold a piece of white beancurd without breaking it.

I used chopsticks criss cross all my life until I was about 21
then I went China for a tour.. and all I got were not
nice straight bamboo/plastic/wooden chopsticks
but really warped disposable ones
and you TOTALLY can't pick up food with them
UNLESS you hold it the right way
and in 2 weeks time, cos I am DAMN HUNGRY and cannot tahan my food keep slipping from my chop sticks, BOBIAN
I learnt how to hold it the right way.
and its strange, once I learnt how to use it the right way
I totally cannot use it the wrong way anymore...

yeah funnie thing is i learnt the 'right' way in US as well, despite all the attentions of my dad ha!
Yeah before that it was cross-style grins
come to think of it, nobody much cares whether you hold it one way or the other. In the past when cultural traditions were more conservative, family matriarches 'enforced' the 'right' way of table manners and that included chopsticks. Not many of them around nowadays. -

Used to hold it cross till Primary school. THen saw my dad holding it d right way n find it veri interesting. Imitated him and now i hold it the right way. Can pick up almost any food.
