The Christian concept of 'imago dei': God's image in man

The concept that we each bear the image of God is utterly central to Christianity; and it is this concept which informs the view that on the most fundamental level of all, we are all equal with each other.
Many people distort the Christian idea that we are all 'created equal' and reduce it to a simplistic caricature which is easily shown to be absurd and untenable.
This is a grave mistake.
The Christian idea of the 'imago dei' has been defended by extremely sophisticated thinkers like Thomas Aquinas (who is universally held to be one of the greatest Christian thinkers of all time); and it continues to be defended by scholars and philosophers who are adherents of the natural law tradition.
I hope that my own somewhat nuanced response in the thread on equality below, will show that the attempts to debunk this idea that various persons have mounted have all misfired; and that they are in fact reducible to attacks on 'straw-men'.
John Finnis for example (who holds professorships at both Oxford University and the University of Notre Dame and who is widely regarded as one of the world's foremost natural law theorists) has used the aforementioned concept in his various articles on the evil of abortion and on the evil associated with the use of certain technologies for facilitating human reproduction.
Get this clear: there is a world of difference between the Catholic Church and the so-called 'City Harvest Church'.

Most people look for equility in $$, power and love they possessed compared to others. This equility is different from what you have stated. -
