hi,
just curious. suppose i went for a job interview at a small-to-medium sized company(not very big lah, and also a bit informal one, not like those big corporations) and they ask me to send them a resume.
in such a case, should my resume be full professional? or can it just be any-how?(all in my own style etc.)
i tried to find some resume templates on the web, but everytime i click on the links, they bring me to pages with yet more resumes links and so on.

Preferably professional. If you do it your own way, they think you'll try to run things your way once you're in. Shoddy stuff, I won't even give a second glance.

Your resume should consist of your cover letter and your resumes.I suggest u go to Books Kino to browse through some examples regarding the format of the resume itself. They got several books which explains how a resume should be typed out and phrased. Do spend some time at the bookshop or library to get a gd feeling how to write your resume.If funds permit it, its gd to purchase 1 book on resume writing and other on gd phrases to use.Originally posted by Nikar:hi,

Alternately if u have any good frens working in HR, you could ask them for some resumes to reference.
Try to use clear concise words, more powerful words like "led my project team", "expertise and demostrated skills in ...." Don't go and type in long phrases or sentences. Short and sweet is the key.
There are several types of resumes format, chornological,functional,combined etc
If your are fresh graduate, starting with the combined or functional format will be suitable as the chornological will not suit u unless u had any form of prior work experience( unless you did work before in small companies doing sales or proper work)
It may seems like a hassle, but i assure you HR departments are quite picky abt cover letters and resumes they sieve through.And usually since these HR ppl been on the job for a quite a while, attempting to rip off other people's covers and resumes usually warrent a dump or a ban from their office.
DON"T ever go and write a cover letter which can be used for ALL sorts of job positions you are applying. The HR hates it and it speaks volumes of your insincerity and lack of effort.

hmm this book pretty basic, but gd for startes, its also found at Books Kino.Go spend some time browsing the shelfs of Books Kino and Borders to read through.If possible. bring some pen and paper so u can copy if you don't want to buy.Originally posted by Gordonator:u'll need this. -
Use simple english, not bombastic words. Don't need to impress, the more you impress, the more is demanded. Remember, they're hiring an employee, not a language teacher.

here's what you need:
personal particulars (standard stuff lah ... name, IC, address, contact etc)
followed by education, the institutions you've attended and the qualifications you got out of it. start from highest attained to lowest, can stop at O levels, no body will be interested in your PSLE lah ..
put them in a column with date from when to when on the right side
next will be job experience, same format, position followed by a one sentence description of your job scope
and a section on skill sets
e.g. programming languages
java (including JSP)
C/C++
prolog
haskell
perl
blah blah blah .......
lastly, name, position and contact of your referees, if any
that's roughly it ! ... not really a fix format, but here's what they'll expect ....

Gd luck though.try to be patient also.It takes an avg of ard 1mth - 2mths to land the job you want.This is the begining, i be looking forward to the post when ur thread title is "how do i prepare for my interview" hehe...

formal resume always look better ....
