  Hate - to me seems like an action word.
  And under these circumstance you will use Hate/Hates
  
  EG:
  John hates Fish.
  I hate durians.
  
  But with a grammar like Is/are/was/were ... it seems (to me at least) ... hate needs that ed creature to make it sound right
  
  EG
  Hilter was Hated by many people
  Saddam is Hated by his people (for eaxmple only)
  The Tsars Were hated by their subjects

  "Hated" is use as an adjective not a verb in the sentence:
  
  "He is hated by (the) people."

  Yeah.. make sense. But
  
  1. He is hated by the people.
  2. He is hate by the people.
  The above two kind of contradict one another... when to use which?
