i used to hate chinese lessons a lot.. my mp3 is always on during most chinese lessons.. now since most of my class speaks chinese, and their command of english is atrocious, ive learnt to open up and accept chinese as a form of communication... im not bragging but i can easily beat any one of them when it comes to an english debate. but the point is... recently ive developed an interest for chinese songs ever since this guy, he can be considered as a guy i like.. he introduced me to project superstar and i began to listen to a few chinese songs.... but today i received a comment from my sec sch friend that ive become very cheena.
is it something good? -

u should know being low class is unrelated to liking Chinese songs or speaking Mandarin. If they think that way, that's their problem. Don't make it yours.

Speaking Chinese is actually a good thing, do not be swayed by your 'banana' friends to think that Chinese is low-class and stuff like that. To tell you the truth I was once such a person, and I realized that thinking this way was so very wrong. The point is, we're all Chinese right? It's all in our blood and we can do nothing about it, so why not start learning how to enjoy being a Chinese. Start by learning more about our 5000yr+ fascinating history and culture, then perhaps you might change the way you think about being Chinese. I can now safely say that I'm happy to be a Chinese.
The reason why you're afraid of your friends calling you 'cheena' is because of the fact that all of you are having the same mindset (birds of a feather flock together, get it?). So you must also try to mix with people speaking chinese then maybe you'll also come to realize that speaking chinese ain't so bad after all. -
