How come Nokia 6230i cannot sent ringtone to another phone..

7260 can attached mid file in mms and sent, dunno why they dont allow mid file as attachment in mms for this model? is it only this model cannot or others too?

Can't you just extract the ringtone and sent it via other method?
Me use N6230 btw.

send via infrared and bluetooth i think can, but these 2 mtd require pple to be close or nearby, mms can sent to anywhere......of course there is no problem for the user but if i want to share a midi tone with friend i wont be able to sent via mmsOriginally posted by CoolMyth:Can't you just extract the ringtone and sent it via other method?

amr can attach in mms for this model, but files like mid and mp3 all cannot. it say file format not supported. and mid files are usu small and not over the mms size limit

what i mean is if my phone already have the midi ringtone in the gallery and i wanna to send it to another phone by attaching it in mms, i wont be able to do it for this model. while for 7260 i tried and it was possible

They purposely don't allow it so you'll spend money on one of their 3rd party devices to make it work.

This is not funny. and whether it is scalable polyphonic or not here is besides the point. even non sp midi can be played on the phones if the phones are compatible. The same midi files could be attach in mms for the 7260 but not on the 6230i. and even though some of the midi files could not be played on the 7260(because it only has 16 chord polyphony), they could nevertheless be attached in mms and sent.

i think u must rename the file to remove the .mid part. and then send by infra or mms or BT it doesn't matter. the recieving phone should be able to play the ringtone. if not, rename the file back and add the .mid extension. it is the same with my 6260. i've tried it and it works.

Try going to Nokia's care center and ask them to update ur fone. I read from another forum that firmware 3.40 has not fixed this bug problem. What is Nokia doing. it's going to lose its mkt if it continues like this.

i hav found a way around this stupid problem to send mid ringtone via mms on the 6230i. just rename the extension to .amr to deceive the mms that it is indeed a amr file. since 6230i can attach .amr format file to send, so it will able to attach the '.amr' file to the message. however, somehow the phone still is able to recognise the 'amr' file as a midi ringtone and able to play it as midi file! i dont know whether it will play on other phones after sending or not, but even if it cant play, u can always rename the ext back to .mid.

i actually use the command prompt in windows to change the file extension(i dont know how to do it in windows explorer), because i cant seem to rename the extension on the phone itself, only the file name. for e.g., if the filename is celestine.mid, if u use the phone to rename it by keying celestine.amr, the result will be celestine.amr.mid, and this will not work since the extension is still mid. would be glad if anyone knows how to rename the extension by using the phone itself.
