I agree with his principle - if the victims respected the culture enough, they would have bothered to owrk out the words in Japanese, and then take that to him. If they're going up and asking for it in English, odds are that his assessment of their kitschy intent is accurate, and that's an insult. Dammit, if you're going to be borrowing someone else's language, at least have the respect and decency to learn something about it first. -

Well, they paid Sakai to translate, didn't they? He did what he did because they were too shallow, lazy and stupid to work it out for themselves, and through those qualities trivialised and insulted his language and his culture by making it as much of a fashion statement as pink-dyed poodles - damn straight they had it coming.

Let me make my stand clear. My best mate's not Chinese, but he had a small poster of the word ren3 (endurance) on the wall next to his desk throughout his years of med school.
I have absolutely no problem with that. Why? Because he went out, discovered the word, learned and appreciated its meaning and significance, and then made a small calligraphy of it. It held personal meaning to him while he spent six years plugging away to become a doctor.
If someone shows proper respect for a language and culture like that, more power to him/her. If they're going to abuse it on a whim and go, "ooh, look, this says I'm a princess in Japanese", I say fcuk 'em. -

Okay, granted the Winnie the Pooh thing (though amusing) was irrelevant to the culture issue, but he wasn't defending that, was he?
Does it show his true character? He's been put in jail, unfairly in his opinion - would such circumstances show a person's character, or is he just majorly pissed off at the world right now? -

I'll leave it at saying this: for those who do not condone vigilanteism, you're entitled to your opinion as much as anybody else. I personally choose to applaud someone who stood up for what he believed in, in a very effective manner.
