if you can do it in your head and can confirm it is right, no need use quad formula. if you cannot or want to recheck, use the quad formulaOriginally posted by monkeybusiness:depend on individuals and whether the qn state to use which one![]()
means tat the equation has complex roots or maybe ur equation got some problemOriginally posted by StarPuppy:but quad equation...what happens if the number cannot square root...does it mean that quad equation is not foolproof? or is the question wrong?
yup yupOriginally posted by hisoka:erm i guess cross is better lah. using simultaneous eqn is like doing 2 questions to get the answer to one question.
jsut try and do more and try to do in your head after you have got the hang of crossing
wat do i do if my square root comes up to lots of decimal...wad do i do?Originally posted by monkeybusiness:means tat the equation has complex roots or maybe ur equation got some problem
sometimes the ans is meant to hav decimals![]()

see whether the qn states round to how many decimal places or to how many significant figuresOriginally posted by StarPuppy:wat do i do if my square root comes up to lots of decimal...wad do i do?
err...cannot just leave like 12.33? or 15. 27?Originally posted by StarPuppy:i prefer quad...easier
but....
if it comes up like
12.32574
or
15.2741
would it be?
12 3/10
15 2/10?
in that case, use a calculator.Originally posted by StarPuppy:but quad equation...what happens if the number cannot square root...does it mean that quad equation is not foolproof? or is the question wrong?
so troublesome..just let it be in decimal lohOriginally posted by StarPuppy:i prefer quad...easier
but....
if it comes up like
12.32574
or
15.2741
would it be?
12 3/10
15 2/10?
why change it to fraction when U can leave it in decimals?Originally posted by StarPuppy:i prefer quad...easier

12.32574

15.2741

12 3/10
15 2/10?
meaning that these numbers are non divisible. you need to use quadratic to do.Originally posted by StarPuppy:i prefer quad...easier

best is to hav more decimal places wen calculating, cos it will be more accurateOriginally posted by StarPuppy:should i divide to
12.111
or
12.11
den round up to
12.1?
if question nvr mentioned, it will be your choice. best is rounding off to 3 significant figuresOriginally posted by StarPuppy:should i divide to

12.11

12.1?
texas instruments are amazing.. can even play games if the teacher is too boring.. LOL, once there was this test about differentiation and integration.. and calculators were allowed.. my teacher didnt even know that by using calculators, can integrate with the ti-83.Originally posted by rainee:I must have done thousands of questions when I prepared for my high school math exam last time
I am too used to doing it the paper way, I have the calculator for one of the classes I took here, but since I never used it anymore after the class, I plan to sell itOriginally posted by coffeeortea:texas instruments are amazing.. can even play games if the teacher is too boring.. ur general formula is wrong it is..Originally posted by transition:I only avg in maths but here's wad I noe.
The qns is 2x^2-5x+3=0
Fastest method (to me), but requires mental sum
- factorise it straight away
(2x-3)(x-1)=0
so
2x-3=0
x=3/2
OR
x-1=0
x=1;
if not use the formular: x=(b+/-sqrt(b^2-4ac))/2a
both methods willl gif u 2 ans cos it's quadratic eqn
ahh, yeah, quite alot of assholes from my school steal calculators just to sell.. i mean, they can sell for prices like 100 usd, even then it is considered cheap.. people rather steal calculators than phones or wallets.Originally posted by rainee:I am too used to doing it the paper way, I have the calculator for one of the classes I took here, but since I never used it anymore after the class, I plan to sell it![]()
