anything fun in Chiang Mai?

  I am planning a trip to Chiang Mai. Anyone any receommendations on the attractions there?
  
  BTW is it safe to take a cab there? Will they try to charge higher for tourist?

  There is the Doi Suthep on top of a mountain, the Doi Inthanon National Park(the highest point of thailand) enroute to a waterfall(forgot the name).
  if you are there on sunday, there is a night market at Tha Phae Gate, where they close the stretch of road for Pasar Malam(cheaper than night bazzar)(only on Sunday night)
  You can get food everywhere, but try the Anusan Market, it's a open air hawker center with a few restaurant(air-con). good and cheap seafood
  you should try there SongTaew(a covered pick-up or Monkey Car), it's only 10TBH per trip or the tuk-tuk(thrilling but expensive)

  i heard the tuk-tuk will try to earn more money from u by going a longer route to ur distination...like what happen to us in bangkok when we took a tuk-tuk....

  no way, before you take the tuk-tuk ask for price first, not ok,don't take or ask for better price

  I have heard this Doi Inthanon National Park is a nice place. When I checked it out on internet, it looks GREAT!
  
  But I just booked hotel at Mae Sa which is away from City and Doi Inthanon. Maybe need to take a day tour there.

  I did not book the hotel pickup fm airport to the Mae Sa Valley hotel. It cost US$35... wondering will it be a problem if I take the private transport like taxi from the airport? Anyone know how much approximately will it be?

  i think all cities has such services and esp so in poorer places. then again, all developed countries could not stamp it out too.

  No, sometime they don't charge you at all but will bring you to some jewellery shop etc before the destination. End up taking a longer time to reach destination.
