Facilities still lacking in Punggol New Town after two years
I bought a 5-room flat in Punggol after queueing for almost five years. Because of the publicity on Punggol 21 as an attractive waterfront town, I endured the long waiting time to get hold of my dream flat.
It's been two years since I moved into this new town and the basic facilities are still lacking in this beautiful place.
All the Punggolians have is a small Punngol Plaza to cater to their daily necessities. There are no restaurants such as McDonalds in Punggol where we can bring our kids for breakfast.
For those who drive, there is no petrol kiosk.
I understand that the economic slump in early 2000 had greatly reduced the demand for flats in new towns like Punggol and a lot of public facilities were put on hold.
However, with the recovery of the Singapore economy, I think it's time for the authorities to revive 'Vision Punggol 21', which convinced people like me to grow my roots in Punngol.
You won't understand the frustrations of living in Punggol unless you live there yourself.
I have seen neighbours who simply refused to move to their new Punggol flats because of the great inconvenience.
I look at it as a vicious cycle where the authorities wait for a more sizeable population in Punggol before they carry out their public projects, while on the other hand, Punggol residents wait for more facilities before they decide to move in.
I sincerely hope the authorities have not forgotten the promised 'Vision Punggol 21'.
I love this town and I still strongly believe the vision of a waterfront town would become a reality in the years to come.

I think sengkang is more well developed den punggol..Wrong choice man..But hey punggol very near for u to go fishing..

Actually, when I just moved here, the facilities also very little, only got Rivervale Plaza. When the no of SengKangian increases, Rivervale Mall and Compasspoint slowly appear.
Dont worry, tink one or two years later, more will be there for Pungolian

there's more than one way of interpreting any statistics
anyway, i used to live in jurong west extension when flats start
coming up. it's only, like, 2 to 3 yrs or more (can't really remember)
later that we really do have more facilities.
first movers don't always have advantage. -

a scout campsite. actually half the size la, the campsite includes the nearby island, start with 'c' one. it's for an major scout camp in 2011 if sg wins the bid. but sadly we lost

The truth why they go back on the promise of ponggol, also till now when so many people is here they still so shit on facilities !!! that is because they suddenly found that there is a "big white dinosaur " staying in punggol !!! i go punggol b4 and the town-planning seems weird. buses enter punggol and make a big round to the int just to serve the residents eg, 3/83. but it's okay ah. and they only have punggol plaza. that punggol plaza trying very hard to attract shoppers ah, shuttle buses frm sengkang/punggol mrt stn rite?
anw, it takes 10 years for a town to mature. just like how tampines and woodlands grew. so let's wait for another 8 years! -

But I have to agree PGL is lacking lots of facilities...
But it is just 4 years old.. Needs time -
Sg recovery benefits will sure pour into our new Orchard Road make-over, followed by the New Marina Bay, then Harbour Front, followed by the Holland Village (now supported by Circle Line).......then will comew to our heartlanders' HDB estates...

Actually Punggol is nice cause its not overly developed and overrun by commercial activities.
I thought that having a Punggol Plaza is enough. The wide spaces is a real break from the over crowded city area.
Its always overkill that sg wants everything at their doorstep ... -

There was a camp-site at Punggol right?? I remember going there 6 yrs ago.
