Questions about Jpeg sub formats.

  got a question here. serious.
  
  whenever i save a picture as jpeg, there's this opetion to choose from 3 sub format,
  
  1) JPEG file interchage format, JFIF 4:4:4
  2) JFIF 4:2:2
  3) JFIF 4:1:1
  
  the file size will be smaller when it is saved as 4:2:2 and even smaller if save in 4:1:1. ok so my question is, what is the different between the 3 sub formats? will picture quailty be affected?

  i just found out about it, guess i never really pay much attention to it in the past. i'm guessing it something to do with the file size, but i need confirmations from people familiar with this subject matter.

  I read somewhere the diff is in the resolution.....eg; the colour edges will smudge or something.
