Singapore: Singapore's tourism authorities have offered hefty grants to international film makers to make the Asian nation a hub of film making. The Singapore Tourism Board has set up the "Film in Singapore" scheme wherein film makers who shoot in Singapore can claim up to half of all production costs or 5.8 million dollars. Singapore Minister for Information, Communication and the Arts, Lee Boon Yang asked Indian filmmakers to utilise the scheme at the ongoing International Indian Films Academy (IIFA) weekend in the country. "But this film in Singapore (incentive) is a financial package that we have put together and is supposed to be offered over the next three years with (in) a batch of 10 million dollars and the expences would be for another cost related to doing shoots in Singapore such as accommodation and hiring of Šlocal talents in Singapore as well as post-production services," saiid Yang.
Indian film directors appeared upbeat about the offer. "We should look for financing, co-structure and Asian people should be coming together and creating a comon platform of which cinema is one of the most important," said Shekar Kapoor, internationally acclaimed for his "Elizabeth" and ""Bandit Queen." The IIFA film awards eye India's almost 20-million strong diaspora and also attempt to market the nation's prolific film industry across the world. Nearly 400 Indian actors, directors, scriptwriters and producers are taking part in the three-day long IIFA awards ceremony. The awards, held last year in South Africa, are in their fifth year and compare with the Oscars. Overseas Indians generate about 100 billion dollars annually and pump back about 30 billion dollars each year into India. According to one estimate by U.S. bank Citigroup, there are 150,000 Indian millionaires overseas -

Morever, Bollywood now prefer to shoot in Western countrioes like Australia and New Zealand instead of their own country. What makes them think They will come to Singapore? So far i had hear only one or 2 films here being shot. -

Why is it down the drain? The gov is trying to offer incentive. It's an investment. It's not some mindless down the drain thing. At least they are not sitting idly and they are trying to do something and be proactive. After all SG is a small economy and things like this initiative should be applauded and encouraged, not lambasted instead.

& see how many websites are dedicated for this
Even people in Singapore are flying off in Dec to Korea to see Dae Jang Geum Theme Park and Cheju Island (places where Dae Jang Geum was filmed). Many other Asian holidayers are also doing the same.
It's just a tv drama but it has the power to boost up tourism in Korea. Previously, Winter Sonata also did the same magic to the Korea tourism industry.

orean drama had global appeal for how long? In terms of global appeal Bollywood wins. It is a huge empire with lots of money. Aishwarya Rai is famous in France. Shah Rukh Khan is famous in Malaysia. The Tamil actor Rajnikanth is famous in Japan. The music composer is a well known name in NYC and Europe already. The reason is that. Singapore is going for it.
SIngapore only likes to equate with people or organisation with lot of money. -

u guys have no idea how many ppl in uk dont even know that singapore Exist...i remember chatting to couple of ppl from Uk..and i goes i live in singapore..and they r like where is Singapore....
neways singapore is a boring Place...I have seen some bollywood movie shot in singapore..guess where they went? Sentosa, Orchard Rd...and now i heard its the zoo..loll...after that where else? Downtown East hahha
i have been to Korea, Japan, I feel its a much better place to act..da city is much more fun, plus they have abundant of nice islands, mountains -

I feel 10 million is a huge sum of money for something like this.
