fake paypal site?

I received a letter from service@paypal claiming paypal is doing so called maintainence and they want me to log in...then there was a link but im not sure if its a real email or just a scam...the link is http://cgi-bin.us/Paypal/webscr.php?cmd=LogIn#..i was suspicious of it as when i went inside the link, none of the links inside it like About,Help etc worked and when i went to www.paypal/us/ and tried to login but the pass was wrong so i tried to get a new pass but they said they do not have my email in their record........so if they do not have my email in their record then why did i recieve a email claiming to log in?Is this a scam?

It's a scam.
I've received e-mails which are supposedly from Microsoft admin, Symantec, etc, etc which are in the same vein as the e-mail you received.
If you don't even have a Paypal account in the first place, then you know for sure that it's a scam. It's a really stupid scam by some really stupid scammers who are out to get really stupid people into giving them their personal particulars.
Dump it and forget it.
And hope that the scammers get thrown into jail soon, where they truly belong. -
well...i did have one but realising that credit card is needed, I did not go there anymore...this was like a few years back...today i received this email and though that i muz log in to prevent it from being gone...but their plan backfired as some of the text in the scam email said that i should login from www.paypal.com/us and not other link...so i was suspicious that this was a scam...another reason is that none of the link in the fake login page was real....click click but never load....Originally posted by fudgester:It's a scam.
