is it really true that "jiak gan tang" pple who are born and educated in s'pore can't understand and speak a single shit of mandarin...?
most of the time when i speak mandarin to my classmates (who are self-proclaimed ENGLISH EDUCATED) , either they show me a disgusted and annoyance look or they refuse to carry on the conversation.
i used to be like them during sec school days, however as i get older i feel that (to me) mandarin is actually the language that is better in binding a chinese-to-chinese relationship. it is actually more endearing.
so, based on today's modern and 'in' society, do u think i will be outcasted soon by fellow pple of my age group and younger??? -

Not really. Come to think of it, chinese who don't know their roots. Come on.
They're the type that refuse to accept that they're chinese? No matter what like it or not they have to accept the fact that they're chinese, afterall.
Afterall what's so disgraceful and lowly of, to converse in chinese? They may look high and superior maybe because they're better in speaking english, but so what? Its not like we cannot speak decent english, and we've an edge over them as well, the ability to interpret and understand chinese, able to speak them as fluent as well.
They love being handicapped. As smart as they think they're, i think they're just plain dumb.
They can happily eat their kantang lah, i can't be bothered with "kantang-ified" people.

sometimes i feel that 'speak mandarin' campaigns by gahmen just can't work because we simply do not have a role model....i mean..even our rulers are also 'jiak gan tang' one
