the #1 method is from microscope where you can see whether the weathering marks are man-made or becos of ageing. the 2nd method is go for the look. ancient dzi's etching will have a certain form of look, only by seeing pics of numerous ancient dzi that you'll register that ''look'' in yr mind. -

#2 is becos modern dzi (created within the last 50 years till today in tibet) will never look like ancient dzi as the formula for etching ancient dzi are lost.

at hseofdestiny museum, a reasonable quality heaven & earth is only $88+. I'm not referring to those lousy semi-transparent ones, but those whose etching are clearly defined and opaque beads. -
