Plans for Matilda
MATILDA House has been identified by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) as one of the buildings in the Punggol area that is worthy of conservation. No hard and fast plans are available yet, but the URA has realised its potential for community use or as a clubhouse once the surrounding area is developed.
Together with the Housing Board, the URA developed plans for Punggol (including Punggol 21) to be a waterfront town.
A URA statement said: 'We try to identify icons and structures that have historical, architectural and identity significance, and try to retain them for future new towns. 'So when they are developed, they will have certain elements from the past as markers and heritage corners.'
It has been working with other agencies to try and determine a suitable use for Matilda House, so it can be restored to its former glory and still be adapted to new uses.

It could probably be Punggol's Town Hall after being renovated and repaired.

Matilda House is one of the few examples of tropical colonial bungalow in that style.
Most look something like Sun Yat Sen Villa.
It's not torn down due to a known force: The force of knowledge of the past!
Some New Towns have heritage from the past left.
Toa Payoh has Shuang Lin Monastery
Hougang has Church Of The Nativity Of The Blessed Virgin Mary
Bishan has Peck San Teng Temple -

my dad said that last time, they tried to bring it down. last time as in when excavators were not even available. the contractors just couldnt bring it down. den at night, the contractors died in their sleep! as such, the house was not brought down, or even try to bring it down.

Punggol West and North is not so developed yet no HDB flats one except for the Marina Country Club(MCC) owned by Mr Eric Low who want to contest with MP Low Thia Kiang in the next GE. Dunno when they will build flats at there

see it everyday. on the platform of the punggol LRT can see a nice view of it.
quite a strange sight anyways. a lone house standing on a bare field with construction work going on around it and tar roads surrounding it.
