PS: basically with a budget of US$68,000, you can get anything from 5-eyed to 8-eyed dzi, decent grade.
if realli want a 9-eyed dzi, with such a price, you can only get a low-grade 9-eyed dzi. -

Well Translucent doesn't not necessary mean Its Low Grade, Just that it may be less Crystalline in its structure. High Grade also not necessary mean its an Old Bead.

PS: if it's translucent, it means the etching and colouring are not done long and complete enough.
if you have seen cross-section of dzi beads, you'll find those translucent ones the etchings is barely reaching the centre of the bead (only at around the exterior), whereas those opaque ones, the etchings is almost touching the centre. -

dzi beads are ALREADY ''altered'' agate that is, people burn white lead patterns into them to form the lines and eyes.

I only know people pay $$$ for lab test on unbroken dzi, why would anyone waste $$$ on broken dzi pieces??

Well to ensure 100% Accuracy & Authenticity probably a Full Gemological Laboratory Test consisting of various methods will be adequate to make such a Guarantee. dZi bead's Structure & translucency can be of more opaque or to that of almost transparent Crystalline of few various Mineral content eventhough they can be of similar AGE.
