2 Cents Worth

I notice that at the end of the reply, people (inc. myself) often key in my "2 Cents Worth".
Is it proper english or forum language ? If it is forum language, then why use 2 cents and not 3,4 or 5 cents?
Can someone shed some light on this...

say alotta things....
then later act humble say is oni worth 2 cents lah -
becos in the past, editors pay public 2 cents per comment to be published in newspaper.

means their comments are not important at all, can just throw away like 2 cents liddat lah... but if u throw away too many 2 cents then will be alot lah.. really.. this one i never bluff you...
