hi,
this is a serious thread.
first, does anyone know how to get the job of an english teacher at some school and what training/certification i must have?
i just want to teach english, so do advise if u know. i doubt the government schools will allow an O' level guy to teach english(even if i've the highest qualification attainable in the english language in the world), so i'm thinking of trying language schools.

besides, which government school in SG wants a teacher who only teaches english? because from what i know, all schools requires each teacher to take up at least 2 - 3 subjects.
i'm looking more at the private school sector as the pay and demand is higher too.

It should be "what training/certification must I have?" But I am also not expert lah, just happen to spot this. -

however, beware that they are often not recognised...
The only route to become an official English language teacher is thru local Uni or overseas Uni...
For ur qualification, u can become a private tutor in teachin' kindergarten or primary students in English Language... -
u could try british council.

None unless you are highly qualified...
Probably this happens in government primary or secondary school teachers whereby they are required to...
I don't think so... It depends on the employers whether they think u deserve to be pay for what u are worth... However, nowadays teachers in private sectors are being paid for what they don't deserve for... -

I think O Levels can teach English.....but only the Primary 1 to 3 kids, if I'm not wrong, that is.

u need a degree, no matter what, here. i think you do have one of those language degrees around here, bachelor of arts in english or soemthing of that sort? else you can try a degree in english lit...should qualify you for the appropriate NIE course and then the job.

sgforums is all crap, singlish and bad punctuaction, so i must go down to this level in order to talk, right? not only sgforums, but folks in SG in general.
i only use real english with people who're very worthy; even my english language teacher in sec school.......i never use real english to talk to her, only singlish......because she's not that expert lah.
if it's shakespeare that kind level, i will sure use one.

3. Schools is spelled with an 'S' in this instance after the word some as the word some indicate that schools would be plural.

As most people from the English isles would have it, they would rather be called Scots, Brits, Irish than English.
