I doubt it is for the good. Through-train programs to polytechnics is a no-no to me. I think that is evil. What if they can't cope and drop out? No O Levels certificate and just a PSLE certificate. No future to talk of. Nowadays, even part-time jobs need at least O Levels. No O Levels, no work.

i think the education system is..... nvm. dunno what tharman is tryin to do.. had to go thru crappy stuff like PW, project work.. and replacing the practical exams with SPA (science practical assesments) instead. i do not see the point, really.. sigh.

Even if I get pre-approved entry to Poly without O level,
I would rather still go for O level exam. Who knows? If
for any reason, I cannot complete my Poly education,
I still have my O level cert. -
i think vocational training is good. more realistic and prepares us for working

Whats the difference? The jobs you're able to do in this 'lower-end' sector would not give a damn if you are a O level drop-out or a PSLE-drop out. -
i believe singaporeans can adapt quickly to the new policy but the problem is also that absence of an 'o' level cert. the student won't have anything to fall back on should he fall out from poly. therefore i don't agree with this policy at all...

there's no perfect system but the changes do affect the people's livelihood in future.. what's the purpose of education... some say for higher knowledge.. others think its just to produce better workers for the information age

in fact...the changes that is now being made reminds me of the old times where we had the "extended" and "monolingual" standards in primary school(it was a long time ago)...meaning no matter how bad U do...U are sure to be pushed up to the next level until U are old enough to work...
by the way...I do support his push for lesser syllabus...to free up more time for a more rounded education....just that I think the emphasis should be still on the academic syllabus...not just doing diversified education for the sake of having a "world class" education. -
To me, the education system sux. Ask the student what is intergration, calculus etc and they will be able to do this sum. Ask them how thay can use it it everyday life they will go er....
They should be taught things that will help them in life such as keeping a balance in their finance. We have got graduates with degree but already a bankrupt even before stepping into the society working.
This should be the changes made, not some stupid Chinese B etc.

Whether this experiment bears fruit or goes down the drain, the rich people don't care.
After all, they will be sending all their kids overseas for further education. -

Too many changes in too short a time frame can be really taxing and bewildering, especially to teachers, who have to adapt to the new systems every two or three years, or even every new school year. I'd rather the MOE come up with a more coherent and consistent plan and give it a longer run, instead of implementing new experiments every year and use teachers and students as guinea pigs.

I don't think any other Education Minister, or any other Minister in other departments have made so many changes within his control in the short time that he is there....
