When i look around my void deck i see alot of gina lazing around and talking cok. What are they doing when they supposed to be in school studying?
When i talk to most of them they say they dropout in sec 3 sec 4 ect.wtf?
The number of school dropouts increasing compared to 10 years ago? -

this dropout may be a good thing since the education system is far from great or what everybody is supposed to believe its the best blah blah propaganda bulls123. more will have the freedom to learn and do what they like be it a skill, trade or whatever. then these so called dropouts when they developed their talents at a young age and somehow make it big, they will then employ grads to work for them and many universities will even confer some honourary doctorate for their successes (in being a dropout). if you look at it, basic education is enough like you learn how to read, write, maths skills, some geography, common sense science knowledge (e.g. not to smoke neare combustible gases/sleep overnight in a car with aircon running). so, as far as money/prospect/'future' is concerned, professional gamers may one day be paid as much as NBA sports stars? and if that is the case, they will be education courses on developing such skills. who knows? for now, you see many kids put into rigourous education systems, and many will say, you must study hard, go university, then you will get a cushy job and earn big money. But with a glut of qualified grads; this is also happening is many countries like India, China etc, worst down the road, their paper qualification worth decreases by many folds such that a plumber or char kway teow seller may earn more than their more qualified peers. this is already happening in other countries. Maybe we are still insulated. In Singapore, the education is really nothing much than memorizing, reading books, exams and so forth. This is the easiest and laziest way to while life away. And you can imagine that they will have modules to teach students about entrepreneurship? well, gumption does not come with a few texbooks, a lecturer who may never have started any business before or instructions manual. Culture and your teacher's or parent's expectations may have a great part to play with this fixation. But the theory that education=money is no longer a linear equation because education was not initially meant to serve that purpose though money comes along the way. So, one must view education such that they enjoy the experience, and then pursue in that direction to succeed. Singapore has got no choice but to invest in this human capital because it has nothing else. It also has limited expertise and to build up new hubs like R&D capabilities takes a long time. You will see many initiatives come and go but they are just fanfares and guinea pig stages. So, the next time you see your Mr Ah beng or Mr Mat loitering around, don't imagine that they have given up on life but they may instead have better plans than your life-science course. They don't need any condecension or have this made a big issue. They would already think of what it takes to survive than chase after that paper to be a salaried worker at the whims of their boss and other infinite uncertainties. And at times, how a person's destiny turn out is a chance happening that is beyond human control so you could put that to luck.
