Why can't I get subsidy for university education?

sounds like education is a double-edged sword ah.
1st people say so many graduates edi...go do masters or phd to differentiate n stand out from them... then cant find job after get the qualifications. Whats the point hor? -
don't just study for the sake of studying...
its but a tool to help sharpen the mind. But if there is no purpose... then there is no point because there is nothing to sharpen. All you get are papers but no doors are open for you to proceed.
When you step out with your first paper and get your first job... then you would be able to better tell what further training you need. I always believe in the school of hard knocks.. -

its a paper world ma.. people dont care how qualified u are unless they see the piece of paper. One person I know..currently doing her phd cos her employer *cough*biopolis*cough* pressured her to. If she ddnt have any paper, she cant advance in her job..even though she quite well qualified.

I took a bank loan for my uni education and pay roughly 700 per sem.
The 700 bucks that I pay per sem basically come from saving my army pay every month. My family is not very well-to-do, but at least we can manage with the basic stuff and occasionally, on some luxuries(eg, this comp here)
The question I would like to ask is, why didn't he take a bank loan? Most people I know take bank loans. Though I pity his family situation, the phrasing of his letter is more like "I'm poor so you must help me pay my fees with no conditions attached" etc....
Looking forward to "official" replies.

the way the letter is written may not be nice but shdnt the amount of subsidy given to a student with household income of $1000 be differeniate from that with household income of $10,000 ?

darling... do u know that alot of hawker under declare their earning??? that guy is saying that his family income is only less than 1000 per mth.....in sg if your individual income is less than 2500 per mth after all the tax relief.. u dun really have to pay tax u know... so even if IRAS ask ur parent to stop filing... that dun mean they earn very little u know.... and if u want to say in it your way.... then i can also say that ur parent's foods sucks that no one wan to buy from them and they should buck up???? factory stall rental is so damn low and if they are earning a total of less than 1k a mth they should really change job.....Originally posted by mistyblue:My parents are hawkers in a factory.

Don't give that kind of sh!t when you don't know anything. He is not crippled or disabled. He can go flip burgers or give tutition or anything to generate cash flow.. But he didn't. All he did was to blame his parents, SINDA and society for not providing him money.
also what he is trying to say is that not much help is available for those average ppl... some ppl are not born as smart as u and they just cant get scholarship no matter how hard they study u know? most sg bursary system in sg suckz...all the good things are given to the smart and FT..... that is why.. the rich is getting richer and the poor is getting poorer.... -
Dearest, my family lived in 1 room rented, my dad had cancer, thyroid issues, was out of work, sold ice packs. Do not think all hawkers under declare their earnings. Do not sweep all people into the same carteory as dishonest because they are hawkers. Besides, You have no right to slander my parent and you have no evidence. Unless you can produce any evidence my parents are cheating IRAS and if you want speak with their accountant firm who do their taxes. Do not ever imply my parents are cheats. If you wish to pursue this further, let me contact the accountant and engage a lawyer. I am dead serious when you slander my parents like this.
If the system is not working for me, then It is not the society/government/everyone's work to solve his issues for him. Everyone who study work out a solution for themselves. So what if the school system/bursary/etc sucks. Can You, My dearest, come out a better system that help everyone that should be helped. i was payin for everything out of my own pockets for the first year.. was working 7days a week.. man.. that was horrible.. project mates demanded tat i resign so that i could meet as and when they like.. as n when they dun have to go shopping.
oh well, int ehend i couldn cope n took loans...
now i'm struggling to pay the loans... with close to half my salary gg to loans... and havin just enuff to spend.. on food and transport, my mom wants me to give her a few hundred a mth so that she could buy luxurious stuff
it sux when parents dunno how to think.
