Reasons for separation during 1965

Economic factors
1)No common market, it hindered Singapore from industrialization.Taxes were still placed on SG's goods entering Malaya, few pioneer certificates were given here as proposed to by Malaya therefore most Factory operators had high operating costs.
2)Malaya's economy strategy, K.L offered attractive incentives to foreign investors and this discouraged them from setting up factories in singapore.
3)Bank of China, Malaya claimed Funds were sent to North Malayan communists through the bank of china.They wanted Bank of China to cease operations or rather Singapore not having to do anything with that bank.However this would cause hardship for many Singaporeans and result in Job loss.
4)Increased finicial contribution, Malaya wanted Singapore to increase its finicial contribution from 40% to 60%.
Bottom line:Malaya is greedy
Political factors
1)Different political approachs- as we all know Singapore adheres Non-communal style while Malay communal style whereby the Malays are the bumiputras.Their ideas often clash
2)Different political views.Singapore was viewed as one of the fourteen states by Malaya government.UMNO also believe that Singapore should leave all the governing to Malaya.However, Singapore viewed itself as one of the four states(Sabah, Sarawak, Malaya....)
3)Communal/racial riots- Umno stir up anti-pap feelings, they play communal politics, said that pap resettlement programme conflicted with the Malay heritage and traditions.Also accuse Pap of not looking after Malays welfare as they were struggling with poverty.
4)Interference in each other's politics.Both fuckin Pap and UMNO always ka-chao each other elections
5)Malaysian solidarity convention(I think this caused the most )- Lee kuan Yew asked for an equal Malaysia to be formed with all the races being treated equally.He called Malayan Chinese association a betrayal to the chinese in Malaya.People wanted lee kuan yew arrested blah blah blah. -

Singapore wanted to collect their own taxes and give an amount to the Malaysian
While Malaysia want to collect by itself from Singapore and give Singapore what amount they want

After the merger
During 1963 election when Barisan Sosialis(BS) contest the Hong Lim seat, the Singapore Alliance Party supported them. So many this also one of the factors that causes seperation which the PAP could be angry????? -
