I guess the one simple answer would be found in history, that rice was a relatively easy to grow grain that provided adequate nutrition for our ancestors. In any case, to associate chinese with just steam rice is like associating an american with potatoes .. steam rice isn't our only MAIN STAPLE, we have noodles etc. etc.

It's just a matter of personal preferences, grew up eating steamed rice...so no complains about it either.
