Working hours in Singapore and other Asian countries

Asians work longer hours than just about everyone else in the world. South Koreans, for example, spend more than 45 hours a week on their jobs - 10 more than Australians or New Zealanders. They are outdone by Singaporeans and Indians, who work more than 46 hours a week on average.
A recent report by the International Labor Organization, ILO, finds that while economic growth has pushed up wages in many Asian countries, until recently, that growth had not translated into shorter working hours.

I am so proud that singaporeans are more hardworking than the Koreans and on par with the Indians!
But I am not proud of myself. Personally I am quite lazy, I am not the on type to work 46 hours a week, guess I have to relegate myself to Australia or New Zealand. It is such a pity to leave such a hardworking country like singapore. -

Employees in China have the shortest working hours in Asia. This was according to the Hudson Report for Asia. The report revealed that among the 2500 employers surveyed in Asia, 41% of respondents in China worked more than 50 hours a week and 7% worked over 60 hours. Media, public relations and advertising companies reported the longest hours with 63% of staff working over 50 hours a week. China also witnessed the largest increase in working hours with 58% of employees working longer hours than they did two years ago, the report said.
In comparison, Hong Kong had long working hours with the highest proportion of employees putting in over 50 hours a week, accounting 70% of respondents. Twenty per cent of those interviewed reported that they worked over 50 hours a week. In addition, 38% of employees had seen their hours increase over the last two years, the report stated.
Though long hours had traditionally been part of the work culture in Japan, it was noted to be changing. In general, the survey found that employees were no longer expected to work long hours but 63% respondents worked more than 50 hours a week. On an average, 37% respondents work more hours than two years ago.
Singapore also had a high percentage of employees working long hours with 64% of respondents across all sectors working 50 hours week, and 19% of respondents putting in more than 60 hours. Also, 37% of Singaporean respondents reported an increase in working hours over the last two years.

Great news isn't it? We do not have to fear China because the mainlanders are lazy - they work much shorter hours than us. We only have to content with Hong Kongers and the Japanese.
But I am sure the singapore gov is not worrying too much about the slightly shorter workings hours of singaporeans compared to the Japs and HKers. Look at the section below. singapore workers experience the most burnout compared with China, Japan and Hong Kong. It shows that singapore workers are working hard to be the ones working the longest hours!
Bravo singapore workers!
I think possibly by 2006, singapore will be number 1 in the working hours and burnout rate.

Tis is no good news...its only recently tat SG cut working days to 5...
it was done in e West for more than half a century ago!
now, e West is already thinking of implementing even only 4 working days per week..when can we even achieve that...

I tried to go home on the dot after work, unless no choice then I stayed back...Quite tiring to work 8hrs a day and have to face the pple we dod't like for tat 8hrs..
