For gaming, especially BF2, you really should go for an AMD64 chip. Runs cool, runs quiet, but BIG performance boost over a P4.
Video card, get AT LEAST a 6600GT. If you can afford it, get a 6800GT or a 7800 card.
Branded PCs are CRAP at game PCs. Look at Dell, recommending dual-core PCs for gaming! That's the hight of stupidity, since games will only see it as a single, slow core. -
DIY best lah, go sls and setup, collect and see the brochures.
DIY is better as you can choose what part.
DIY is better as you can get AMD processors instead of intel stuff.
AMD is faster and cheaper and most computer makers use intel. -

If you're talking about the best, then DIY. No question about it.
But if you're looking to buy it off the shelves, then the usual suspects should be good enough. HP, Dell, etc. There's really not much difference comparing brands. What you should be looking at is the internal hardware.
As for Apple, its good but it might give you some compatible issues. Afterall, most softwares and users are still based on Microsoft. If you're not ready for that, don't get the Apple. -

$50-$100...did a quick drop into a website...store in sim lim...Crucial PC2-4200 DDR2-533 512MB costs 92 bucks including GST...does a system with an additional 512MB of RAM sound better to U in terms of everyday usage rather than the possibility of calling up the technical hotline of some company...hopefully once in a blue moon?...Anyway RAM is not the only thing U can upgrade with 100 bucks but I presume U get my point... -

Most speed of games are highly dependant on GPU and its Memory size/speeds. -
I think ppl buy so called branded PC not for their specification but more for the after service support. Imagine you got problem you bring it down they fix it. For DIY system you gotta do your troubleshooting yourselves. For ppl more on the end user side it is a nightmare. So the price paid for branded PC is not just for the specification but also for the after service support
The big plus for DIY system is like wat ppl said you only put in wat you wanted. It is something like say I wan SE joystick and Samsung clam shell onto a nokia keypad as a phone. A customised product just like software. -
