In molecular orbital theory, it states that there are two types of formation, one is the bonding molecular orbital, and another is the anti-bonding molecular orbital.
I understand about the part on the superposition of wave affects how the electrons will bond, but just wanna clarify:
In a given hydrogen molecule, take for example a sigma bond between the hydrogen atoms, will there be a bonding AND an antibonding molecular orbital formation?
Or is the formation of molecules will just have either the bonding or antibonding outcome. When its bonding, then it is bonding, and when its antibonding, it is antibonding.
It seems like the second one, having read about the differences of Hydrogen and Helium, it seems the reason why Hydrogen bonds is because of the bonding molecular orbital, and Helium, due to it being a noble gas, does an antibonding molecular orbital. But what's the rationale behind it?

i tot when u have obtained octet then it will be antibonding, no meh? or is it when orientation is not correct then is antibonding?
