How to do a reformat?

  Anyone knows how to reformat a computer?
  I can't.
  Using non-bootable xp disc, and this is not related to the msn problem, just feel that my computer is behaving weirder and weirder.....
  
  I tried to overwrite by installing again and the standby option is freezed...
  
  And i cannot rollback and install again because i do not have windows 98 disc.
  
  Help!!!!

  It says that i'm running some disk utilities when i'm not running anything and cannot format....

  1)Click Start
  2)Click Run
  3)Type: cmd
  4)Type: format C:
  5)Type: (volume label of your hard disk, which is the name u c nex)t to your hard disk icon)
  6)they will say something about dismounting the drive; Type: Y (then i think press enter)
  7)if cannot, then they will say it will reformat on the next startup; Type: Y
  Backup all your files to an external hard disk, or another partition
  9)Reboot

  I cannot dismount the drive, it still says "it is in use" and "cannot be locked"....

  Most of my files are in E: so i typed "format E:"...
  the C drive can be formatted but not E:.
  The file system in E: is FTPS. Will it make any difference?

  reformat means all gone....so reconsider...try scanning with Ad-Aware and ur anti-virus and delete huge useless files...see if the computer speed is faster...

  If you PC shutted down on its own suddenly and lots of weird things happen, i'm sure you would be spooked too and want to reformat.
  I already backed up the stuff i want anyway.
  Better not keep too many as there might be viruses hiding in one of the files....

  Reboot, get windows into safe mode, then reformat. Your comp autostart some processes that are running in the background thats why it don't allow you to touch.

  Lesson learnt, next time you get a customised one from SLS, ask for a copy of winxp. If they hesitate, insist they burn a copy for you and provide a cd-key. I do that, you should to.

  I'm back from safe mode, have good and bad news.
  
  Drive C formatted 99%, and later could not continue, but most hidden files are gone except for something i pasted in there.
  
  Bad news is, drive E caould not be formatted even in safe mode.
  
  So now do i install XP into my drive C: ?
  
  Then maybe i can try to format E: from here.
  I think i figured it out, i'm currently using drive E:, so the system won't allow me to format it, am i right?
