Depends on what you're doing there. i spent 10 days in tokyo, spent approx low 1k. Inclusive of clubbing +drunk every single nite. Stayed around roppongi area as i wanted to be near the clubs.
Tokyo is a fantastic place!
tip: stay in a backpacker's hostel, can go as low as sgd40/day for a bed. -

Been Tokyo & Harajuku a few times (most recent last yr) but not Hokkaido.
I've got a relative there so everything all free.
Most go Disneyland & Disneysea (Disneyland is better), try hot spring bath- the traditional type- very fun. Go Odaiba (lots of big shopping mall), Mt Fuji (I saw a volcano), visit their temples. Harujuku is a must for teens. Shinjuku also very good.
It is quite easy to go around, though their MRT very confusing (many lines criss-crossing). The Japanese are very helpful & most can understand simple Eng.
Food- lots of small eateries, u can get very fresh sashimi, cakes, green tea ice-cream from their supermarkets. The range of products very wide. -

The japanese railway isn't that confusing lar. The 2 main ones are toei and JR; chances are that you are going to be on Toei most of the time. Anyway Odaiba is more of an architectural exposition. Plenty of nice buildings but the shopping cannot be compared against that of Harajuku and Shibuya. That's the teen capital, not so much of shinjuku htough it's really just farther down the road. Shinjuku is generally considered the main commercial district, somewhat similar to our orchard road. then you have the seriously high end and expensive ginza, where you can find pretty much any brands which costs and arm and a leg.
Still if apple has the chance it might be quite worth it to take the monorail across rainbow bridge into odaiba. just don't get off. once you hit the expo centre, the monorail will turn back, and then you can get off at one station before and pay a lot less fare.
If apple intends to go to hokkaido be sure to include the train fare there; i'm not sure how much it costs but it's easily sgd$100? coz' that's what the *bus* fare to kyoto costs. considering that hokkaio is much farther away, the train fare would probably be around sgd$200...
Anyway who on earth wants to go to hokkaido? beo cows? nothing there... -

Rate is S$1.48 = 100 yen.
normal is S$1.53 = 100 yen
even long ago is S$1.6 = 100 yen -
oh yah, one more thing.
Try not to take taxis there. Largely due to the traffic. a taxi ride from harajuku to shinjuku can easily cost you in excess of sgd$50, probably more.
Nite time is fine. i took one from a club in shinjuku back to roppongi at 2am, costs me approx 2000yen, roughly sgd$35. -

You can withdraw money at Master and VISA ATM machines, *BUT* only the ones from their post office will work for foreign cards.
Not sure about the exchange rate though...

I've seen one which was check in after 7pm, leave before 7am going for 6000yen. compare that against backpackers hostel which was around 3000 yen/day, that's double the price.
you can get ryokans for around 6000yen(i think? can't remember) in suburbs 15 minutes away from the tokyo metropolis. I stayed in one the first nite i was there.

Cosplay cafes are found mostly in Akihabara, the electronics + otaku capital in japan. Uh, i no longer have the precise directions but you can do a search on the net. -
