Which university in Singapore is best?

Hi everyone,
I'm a non-Singaporean, planning to undertake my tertiary education in Singapore. Would really appreciate it if you could help me make an important decision.
Would like to ask you which university you think would be best for an engineering/science course and why so... NUS or NTU? I've also heard about the uni of New South Wales opening a campus in Singapore...
Since I am a non-Singaporean, I thought it would be best to ask you guys as you would be able to give me more information.

NUS --- Science is better choice!! NUS does better in academic area..
NTU --- Engineer is the better choice!! Their lecturer and tutor are more hands on, they impart technical knowledge as well as academic knowledge far better than NUS does.
SMU --- Of coz its business management... NTU does a nt bad job in tat area too, but nt as in depth as SMU though.

our govt opened a unit there just to cater to people who wants to study in singapore.

If you are planning on going NSW, why the hell would you want to come to Singapore?
Wouldn't you get a more genuine undergrad experience studying at NSW over in Australia? -

One tip I have for you, look through the syllabus and course structures. You can find them listed online at the respective websites. Compare and see which one you prefer.
As to which is the best? I guess there is really no one true answer. Some say NUS, come say NTU for engineering. As far as Im concerned, its a fact that generally, NUS has the better A level student. But they don't necessarily produce the best University graduates. Get my point?

Your point is valid. But living expenses in australia would be higher than in Singapore I think... Though I'm not so sure about if the tuition fees will be adjusted for Singapore or not. -
As reported in the ST today, going by the British paper, The Times Higher Education Supplement (THES) ranking of the world's best 200 universities places NUS tops in Singapore (rank 22 falling from 1
. NTU ranks 48 (up from 50 in 2004). No figures for the other local universities are published.
The rankings are largely based on measures like the no. of times research is cited by other academics, staff-to-student ratios and the no. of students and staff recruited overseas. Both NUS and NTU faltered in this category of ranking.
In other areas, NUS was ranked 9th-best university in the tech disciplines (which includes engineering, comp science), 15th in biomedical sciences and 13th in social sciences. None was mentioned on NTU.
In the employer review (in which international companies prefer to recruit from), both fared the same (12 out of 100 points).
However, for NTU, strong scores for international faculty (95 points) and international students (53 points), gave it the edge over others ranked close by.
As for UNSW, SMU, etc, no comments were published.
So which is best in 5 years time? Who knows? -

Singapore students study in the NSW campus here pay the same price for tuition fees as international students who study in the campus over at Australia. For living expenses, I don't know. You count yourself. If you have been to both Australia and Singapore, you should know.Originally posted by applemint:Charlize,

What is best depends on what is your definition of it and what is your interests. NUS and NTU have similar science and engineering courses, but some modules differ slightly. You have to read the module synopsis to see what fits you best.Originally posted by applemint:Hi everyone,

NUS is better for you if you wish to pursue a Humanities and Arts course.

NUS MBA was ranked 30th in the world by the Financial Times a few weeks ago. Besides, SMU doesn't have an MBA program. For business courses, there are no rankings for the undergrad level. Further, SMU has no accreditation whatsoever. I heard they did try to get but their application was rejected as they had not enough full-time professors. So, they just converted all their adjunct professors to full-time professors, in name only.
