Westernisation and Christianity

I really cannot help but to bash those people who say that being a Christian means that you are western-influenced.
1)Christianity originated from middle-east around Jerusalem region
2)Christmas is commercialised by westerners and many have lost the true meaning of christmas.
3)I notice many Singaporean Chinese especially, i am a Chinese myself.Like to sterotype in the sense that any country outside Asia, you call those people Ang moh. -

I think people are concerned with NOW, not BACK THEN
Modern Western culture and Christianity are very much interlinked, considering its influence on Europe over 2000 years, not forgetting when the Europeans started their colonisation of Africa, America and Asia, their missionaries tagged along.
To harp on the source of Christianity, where the people are mostly Jews or Muslims now, doesnt make sense.

I guess we can define one's belief in christianity as being synonymus with westernisation only by the basis of his or her faith. I bet there are individuals that profess to the christian faith as it is viewed to be a faith associated with western culture which in their naivity believed to be superior to asian culture. However, there too are individuals that believe in the christian faith because they like any other professors to any 'asian-based' religions believe in their god. I believe that religion is by choice, even if it is for the wrong reasons, it's still the individual's choice to see things his or her way.

Let me give these youngsters a senerior....if years ago malaysia and US changed religion, say malaysia worship christianity and US worship allah. So do u think you will be praying to the cross??
i doubt so...because of the influence of western countries, thats why alot of things are "popular" here....i am not saying that people who worhip christ are just following trend. I am debating that it is indeed westernisation that brings about popularity in christianity....

Yes you have a pt. We would all be mostly a professor of Islam if the west have had embraced Islam instead of Christianity. It is indeed due in part to the spread of western culture and western thought through the colonialization of non-western lands that we in this part of the world know christianity. But I believe the threadstarter has brought up a more pressing issue in where many people believe that one's profession to christianity is a step towards the west, and it is almost assumed that christians are all potato heads waanabes who can't be! -

Don't forget that the Roman Empire's embrace of Christianity and persecution of native religions killed off Wicca. The Europeans were originally Wizards, and not Christians. To say that Europe has Christian roots is basically flawed.
