Accent problem.

i tell u, the other day i was speaking chinese and my frens laughed at me. dont be mistaken, my chinese standard is not too bad but my frens told me not to use it cos i sound funny when i use mandarin.. dunno why!! what is surprising is that those ppl who laughed at me, they got poorer chinese grades than me.

better grades does not mean you speak better.

Same problem with me... except... my command of Mandarin is very poor... But I never speak much mandarin anyway... maybe that's why...

you are local chinese, but maybe because you are brought up in ang mo enivronment? your school, parents....all eat potato ones...so your english becomes your "mother tongue"..you will get this strange/funny accent when you tries to speak other languages...
well, we always make fun of frens who stays in UK or states for quite sometime. when they came back, they have this strange accent in chinese...

I too, have higher chinese grades than my peers. I speak chinese with a bit of english accent in it..sounds funny too
