Call Singapore Customs directly or send e-mail
I REFER to the letter, 'Passed from one agency to the next' (ST, Oct 31), from Mr Terence Ho Ching Ming.
Singapore Customs maintains a hotline (1800-2333000) and a designated e-mail address ( href="http://
[email protected]" target="_blank">>
[email protected] ) for the public to report customs offences.
Members of the public with information on smuggling activities and evasion of duty/GST are requested to contact us directly.
Nevertheless, we are working with the other enforcement agencies to direct all such feedback to us for follow-up investigation.
We thank Mr Ho for his telephone call on July 31 in which he reported the sale of contraband cigarettes by illegal immigrants at Yew Tee Industrial Estate.
In the telephone conversation, our officer had assured Mr Ho of enforcement action being undertaken.
To cite an example, Singapore Customs, together with the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority and Singapore Police Force conducted a combined operation at Yew Tee Industrial Estate on June 30.
Since then, continuous enforcement actions have been taken, the most recent being the joint operation conducted on Oct 29.
So far, 40 offenders have been arrested. Singapore Customs will continue to monitor the situation and will step up enforcement action accordingly.
