Smoking. Personnel Choice or Not?

Read the ST mind your body today, feel real sad for the lady. She don't smoke but still got lung cancer, just cause the people around her smoke. As a ex-smoker, looking back I do think I was very selfish.
But maybe you guys and/or gals (must be politically correct) have a different view? -
Started smoking 7 months ago, and Juz quit smoking 2 days ago....
wan 2 save money for other stuffs and wan 2 be healthy 2oo

Of course smoking is a personal choice. Even with regard to second-hand smoke, you always have a choice to walk away from it.
If the woman featured in ST didn't smoke, and got lung cancer, why is the fault pointed at smoking?
There is no doubt that smoking raises the smoker's risk of lung cancer. However, the link to second-smoke hand is less clear because we do not know enough about how much other pollutants can cause lung cancers. Furthermore, since most enclosed places are smoke-free, the amout of cigarettes smoke inhaled by non-smokers is many, many times less that inhaled by smokers. So the non-smoking woman who got lung cancer may have been poisoned by something else in the air besides second-hand smoke. There are other sources of carcinogens in the air besides those from cigarette smoke, for example, cooking fumes, car exhaust etc. Or who says lung cancer must be caused by something in the air; it may be something that one eats or drinks. -

the government is taking measures too...now alot of places are declared smoke-free zones

Let's not dick around the issue here, we all know cig is bad (all the lawsuits in US). What I want to know is should we separate the smokers and non-smokers? On one hand, smokers and their non-smokers friends might not think there's anything wrong with it. On the other, the surrounding folks will also have to suck in the smoke (and pls don't say the non-smokers can walk away).

Personal choice... But for own health and others should try to quit if possible lor...
For myself i don't really mind if the person i'm with smokes. My life isn't meant to be long anyway haha... The important thing is that he/she must know when not to smoke, eg. Got children/baby around, Pregnant ladies around... So long as considerate and try to minimise damage to others its ok.
But of cos la... Try to quit la... Someday... Yes, YOU -

While I agree that smoking is a personal choice, it is not your right to puff your smoke right into other people's faces. I've been smoking for almost 16 years now and i quit a couple of months back. well..not totally quit cos i do light up when i had a couple more of drinks.
issue here is it is definitely personal and highy habitual. i quit becos i felt like stopping. i smoke when drinking becos i again felt like it. ironic, isn't it?
to all non smokes, if you can't stand a smoker around you, jus walk away. dun discriminate and dun show disapproval gestures. you won't see any ex-smoker do that. i assure u that. -
It is absolutely clear that second-hand smoke damages health. Parents who smoke in the presence of their children should be charged for child abuse and those who insist on smoking around non-smokers should be charged for attempted manslaughter. If smokers want to exercise their personal choice, go into an enclosed toilet cubicle and smoke yourself to death.

Whenever u smoke, the carbon particles will accumulate at ur alveoli (the pipe connect to ur lung), accumulate until u got stuck..Complications: Cardiac Arrest, Breathing difficulty, Brain Damaged
Signs and symptoms - cough, breathing difficulty, alot of greenrish sputum.. Yellow and tarred stick to ur teeth, finger nails turning yellowish, Bad Breath Smell..
Don u find that disgusting.. ahaa...

Ain't life a bitch? Smokers want the freedom to puff, non-smokers wants justice for the shortening of their life by smokers.
So how? Very hard issue to handle man left also wrong, right also wrong. As a ex-smoker I know the feeling of smokers, but as a non-smoker now I also know the torture the nons are going through. I think there's no clear answer to this problem.
P.S. The fellow who invented the cig should be hang man!!

Why do people smoke? It is not free and neither is it cheap. Is it something that benefits our health? Or the opportunity cost of giving up and looking uncool is greater than having good health? Are they just addicted to it, just like drug users...?
