I think I just caught this imposter. Firstly, a china man learn WRITTEN english starting from secondary school till university. According to my experience with china man, their spoken english sux, but they can read and write pretty well. I am not at all surprised. Even for Singapore a small nation with only a 3.something miliion population, there are so many cases of uncivilised and barbaric behavior.
One of our common traits which I've personally seen once TOO MANY of local tourists... kapo whatever can kapo from the hotel room they stay... if they can bring the furniture home, they will cos they think that they have paid for it just from paying a few nights' stay... are we that glamorous then?
when our compatriots are overseas in restaurants, especially when in groups... they'll talk and laugh so bloody loud it can be heard almost the whole restautants... when you tell them to mellow down, they'll give you the kind of look like they own the damn restaurants... so here again, are we that gracious...
I remember I once had a conversation with a malaysian colleague when I just asked her casually why is there a rise in the number of cases of Singaporeans getting robbed in Johore and other parts of Malaysia? She looked at me coldly and said "If your people can stop behaving like village upstarts, they will not attract so much unwanted attention and will not be robbed so often".
I was really taken aback by her reply. Then again what does her reply tells us about the behaviour of Singaporeans north of the causeway?
The number of cases of maid abuse in Singapore is frightening. Every now and then I can hear and read such stories of maid abuse all the time!
The most disturbing thing is that a majority of maid abusers in S'pore are well educated professionals like lawyers, teachers etc. At least hundreds of maids
have lost their lives working here in the past five years!!
It is really a shame that Singapore started modernising a few decades earlier than China but yet the mindset of so many Singaporeans are still so third world.
If anybody wants to hear, I still got lots of stories to tell. -

We are all yellow skinned.. let us not prosecute our distant kin... look to the nice sweet chicks they have.. i over look all thier bad attributes...n look at the chick factor.. so vast..thier land..so many divisions... so many KINDS of hot chicks...mmmm..slurp! I do my revenge by banging every single chio bu the country can churn out...

These incidents of maid abuse in Singapore, are sadly true, and factual. However, whether these locals are educated or not, are not points of arguments. These cases of maid abuse were committed by people with either mental disorders, emotional problems, or simply over stressed.
Yes, Singaporeans who travel abroad and pilfer from hotels ought to be ashame, but which country's people have not done this? Apart from pilfering hotel accessories, do we see them shoving people out of the way while others are queing to use a restaurant's toilet? Singaporeans at least have some sense of conscience, and have a basic sense of guilt.

On the point of Singaporeans who travel abroad and being ugly, I have to defend that point too. I have come across a few groups of Singaporeans here in China. Seen them shopping, chatting at cafes (after shopping & sight seeing), and just taking pictures. I could tell they were from Singapore the moment they started talking. Frankly, they don't shout or make a fool of themselves. I should say they behaved very graciously in a foreign country. I give those groups of Singaporeans two tumbs up -

I dont think there's another country with a higher maid abuse rate than Singapore's.
To be honest I have many personal encounters of Singapore folks shoving others out of the way while queuing for taxis. In fact I have also seen Singaporeans fighting for taxis.
I have even seen Singaporeans quarrelling and coming to blows in a cinema bcos one party was chatting loudly with a friend or using a handphone. One most striking example was about a lawyer who was beaten up by some abengs who did not like the fact that the lawyer told them to quiet down...
I have also heard stories of Singaporeans fighting, quarrelling with each other over soft toys, free gifts etc. The most infamous example: The Hello Hitty frenzy.

These spats of people coming to blows over Taxi ques and even while driving, I have read about. And these happened over a span of years - NOT DAILY EVENTS.
True and correct that there are no execuses or reason for abusing another human, however, someone with mental disorder/s can go undetected for years until something or someone triggers it off. But I also agree that there are some sadistics idiots among us, who take pleasure in abusing maids. They should be locked away.
Ratio of maid abuse is indeed high here, sad & true, and I believe our government is seeing to it that these embarrassing maid abusers are weeded out of our society.
I know you are pointing out that we have our ugly people as well. I don't deny that we don't, but I can see that our proportion of ugly people are far smaller.... -
The common traits of boorishness and rudeness apply to all nationalities.They have roots in the concept of "noveau riche".This is when there is overnight affluence with no corresponding improvement in culture or upbringing.
Wealth is just crass showings if you are not educated and are well-mannered.I would say that the more well-behaved Singaporeans are those who believe in treating others fairly and often take charge of their childrens' upbringing.
It's pretty evident.Those who let their kids run around the town centre and realising they have lost control, and they begin to yell at the top of their lungs.Now those are statistically more likely to be boorish and arrogant when abroad. -

About the fact that Singaporeans go hotel kapo wadever they can or go restaurant take as much chill or ketchup home is those uncles and aunties age around 40 plus. But for ppl around 20s or early 30s I am sure they donÂ’t do such acts even if there is It must be of a insignificant amount.
Time has pass and things have change. Maybe the attitude and bad habit of those china man has already started to change but we haven seen that, I must admit those china ppl that gives me a very bad impression are those uncles age 40s that still believes in talisman water.
So lets wait and see for the next generation. And we make more compare and contrast. By the time we can also tell which country have made improvement. -

Generally all these abusers are ill-tempered either by character, mental state, work related issues, in-debted, or in need of psychiatric attention.
There is no need for proof. U can't easily provoke a tamed and domesticated dog into biting you, as easily as you can get bitten by a rabid dog!

If you got stories to tell I think people also have la..relax. Anyway Singapore hires the most maids what so higher number can mean higher occurence right? I've yet to meet a Singaporean maid in another country.
Piracy's also a theft problem occuring often in Singapore true, but most people know where the original ones are sold, ALL, and I kid you not, ALL the Chinese friends of mine say in China, no one knows where the hell the original disks are sold. Want to buy also can't buy.
How about stealing nuclear technology from the United States?
Covering up the amount of SARS related deaths?
Driving tanks over unarmed citizens in a certain square?

Restaurants are meant to be quiet? Sure those high class ones are. I was at Melt last night, been to Mortons before. I still didn't hear anyone making a racket, Singaporean or Chinese.
You don't have to attract attention in order to be robbed in Malaysia. I'm a Malaysian who's a PR in Singapore. Who would rob the poor? If you're desperate and you see a guy wearing normal local clothing but stepping out of a Singapore car, the famous ones you've heard so much about due to their high prices, would you rob the guy driving a Singapore Wira or the one driving a Malaysian Wira? Who'd know the local situation to be able to hinder your robbery attempt better? The Malaysian or Singaporean?
I do agree Singapore has its fair share of ugly tourists, but so does Malaysia. I believe it's a mix of culture and upbringing though. My theory is that the reason why you hear about so much bad Singaporean trivial stuff is because there's a lack of any sensational matters to report. I doubt the Detroit local paper covers ugly tourists who steal cutlery, when during one year which I forgot, a murder occured in that city every 7 seconds.
Well educated doesn't mean you're always behaving properly you know. NKF case? Nike's alleged child labor employment? Enron?
Blueray I can understand what you say though, I do agree sometimes Singaporeans also push a bit of limit..want free things, everything must argue/bargain, but who doesn't want free stuff and bargains? It's just a matter of how much effort you put into it, but generally they do behave overseas. Chill brother/sister! -

I have been doing a lot of travelling around asian countries in recent years. I discover that many people from other ASEAN countries find us overbearing, boastful and condescending towards them.
Here's what my Australian friend has to say about Singaporeans:
Lamentably, two Singaporean traits still stand out like a sore thumb and should be regarded with growing concern by all right-thinking people here: they are our utter selfishness and inconsideration towards others. This is clearly manifested in the irresponsible way many of us drive and park our vehicles, the indiscriminate use of hand phones and other electronic devices, unpunctual for business and private appointments, jumping queues with no guilt feelings, chattering in cinemas, public lectures and libraries, using force on others with the slightest pretext, to name just a few of our more glaring failings. -

Imagine if everyone took it slow, relaxed and let things come as they come, I think this country would still be a kampong. It's a trait that has its good and bad sides, and maybe some people cannot understand it is a trait that was necessary to ensure survival.
India has its own share of problems too remember the Kashmir region line of control? What about the caste system? What's this black and white Indian thing too right?
Let me be frank here, sometimes it is not that someone is overbearing, but because the self is inferior. And playground physics also dictate that the biggest one gets the best toys. It's a simple fact of life that will not change, no matter how much we rant for equality and reason. Other countries' citizens may have bad things to say about Singaporeans, but I'm pretty darn sure and willing to bet they have bad things to say about other countries too. So let's not feel special hehe. -
