Can People Ever Fly Like Birds?

Hi....
Do u think it's possible for humans to be able to fly like birds?
Since scientists can genetically engineer fruits for example.
Like, they can insert a gene from potatoes into tomatoes. To make the tomatoes bigger. Whatever.
Wouldn't it be neat if we can have some bird genes and grow wings? Then we can fly....... -

We'll need scrawny weak frail legs, lighter frame and omfgpowerful arm muscles.
Then we can probably enjoy flapping around in the air but suffer trying to live our normal lives back on land. -
I don't know why should genetic engineering stop at fruits and vegetables.....at some point in time, we will all be wondering about us flying like birds and swimming like fish. Other than the usual benefits like curing cancers and such....I just hope it will really happen and carried out smoothly.....no X-Men please...

Its not just grafting wings onto the human body... You gotta create a whole new set of instructions for the brain as well as the automated instructions in the spinal cord. Which essentially means editing if not re-writing the DNA. Which is as good as NEVER. \
It takes God-knows-how-many sensors and psychomotor reactions to fly... And in order to do that, the brain has got to be quite focused on that alone and not be cluttered with all that rubbish that our brains are perpetually filled with. Which means gotta simplify our brains first. (Now you know why bird's brain so small, you bird-brain ) And that would kinda defeat the purpose if we're reduced to the intelligence of birds right...
I rather have X-ray vision... but then SOME girl i likes to dress up in AIRY clothes so i doubt i'd need em anyway

It is not only physically IMPOSSIBLE, it is also EVOLUTIONALLY impossible.
To be able to fly, the human brain will have to be reduced in size, because our brain is very heavy. Our skeleton is too dense and hence too heavy. Our body contains a lot of fluids, water mostly. And growing feathers and turning our arms into wings, aren't in the blueprints of our DNA.
So just imagine, if scientists are able to genetically create a flying person, the resulting flying-person will be so much less inteligent because of a smaller brain (bird-brained), fragile because of thinner & lighter bones (hollow bones), and likely have a very short lifespan - metabolic rate will also be affected.
Here's a fact; the larger and slower moving warm-blooded creature (us included), will have longer lifespan. Think elephants or tortoise. -

As for flying, the problem is not finding out the genes but to make them work in perfect synchronous harmony with the modified body an brain without compromising intelligence. Of course, this is all light years away but nevertheless still possible though I'd still prefer some cyberized anti grav implants than wings. The possibility of creating modified humans like what you see in the anime ghost in the shell is far more feasible than the thought of creating "angels" if you ask me. -
You know, even if the egg-heads were able to come up with some freaky flying human, the immediate battle task will be the the barrage of viruses that this "new human" have to become immune to.
The task, is very very daunting.
Even the cloned sheep Dolly, could not live long.

Those viruses that are understood and have remedy for, are those that are molecularly simple and thus easy to control.
Molecular research and Virology is an ever ongoing and tough subject of study and undertaking. While scientists are busy trying their damndest to find a solution for those incurable diseases, people are ignorantly misusing Antibiotics causing even the common flu virus to become invincible to all the latest Antibiotics.
I mean, people play a big part in medical science's advancements, but unfortunately, people being people will just do as they please.
As to your question, I'd say that human inteligence can't possibly grasp EVERYTHING that God or Nature has created. Arguably you may say, given time we may eventually we will. In this regard, only time will tell.
