as for war movies - i have a massive list - but i cba'd to dig it out.

it depends on what a movie-goer is seeking. pure entertainment this show is ok.

I just watched The Deer Hunter! Boy it was Fucked up(in a good way)! Rather disturbing, and makes me not really want to play Russian Roulette with my airsoft S&W M19 anymore... -

Well, if you are talking about heat seakers in general, i would say you are partly incorrect. Heat seakers are some of the most maneuverable anti-aircraft missiles available today. Just do a google search on missiles like russian R73, Igla or the israeli python. If iam not wrong, the F18 in the movie was flying using its afterburners, at low altitude and directly over the launch site. A heat seaker would not have much of a problem tracking and locking on to the f18 under these circumstances.
Like you, iam a bit sceptic about the "shotgun" detonation of the missile even though there are certain missiles that are fitted with "intelligent" warheads to cause max damage. -
elektraand the ejection ah.. haha very few pilot can survive wif minimal internal injuries upon an ejection at mach 3... but in the beginning of the movie (first 15 min) i thought all was cool.
Mach 3...no way. F18s max speed is mach 1.8. .....and while maneuvering hard to dodge a missile i would be surprised if crosses even mach 1.0 -
as for missiles - it can be a proximity fragmentaion type - ie. the blast doesnt do the damage, but the fragments from its detonation is enough to do damage.
some weapon systems have an all-aspect capability [they dont have to be fired form behind the heat source]
as for schindlers list i thought it was a blatant oscar claw attempt [that worked]. i hated the little red girl scenes and i really didnt find it as good as others claimed it was.

i was brought up on war movies as a child, having a military-oriented father [air force], so ive had plenty of time to see a wide variety. -
But how is it possible for the missile to track and adjust its course for sooooo friggin long!The entire scene lasted at least 3minutes...i mean wtf...the heat-seeker got so much propelent and fuel in it to last for that long?
