I thought you get to choose where you can save it into? Then only you add onto your MSN emoticon list?

no leh... they juz let u enter the name u want to save as & enter only. it muz be saved in the computer itself coz i used 2 diff computers & i dun get to see the other set of emoticons i saved in one pc if i using another pc.Originally posted by renorenal:I thought you get to choose where you can save it into? Saved meaning? You get a emoticon stealer and 'steal it', or you download it from the internet and after that place it as ur emoticon?
If its the former, then i think it aint saved anywhere, just somewhere in ur account perharps
If its the latter, then of course you can choose where to save it lol -
did export out for someone before...
think its in document and settings/your user name/???/microsoft/messenger/...
the files' extension are all .dat one... -

i oso tried finding out where its saved at but failed. in the end i had to msg my fren all the emoticons and ask him to msg me the emoticons back...

You can by the way but as hmaster said you should search.
c:\documents and settings\user\application data\microsoft\msn messenger\account number\custom emoticons.
Also you need to have hidden files and folders showing.If you search the forums, I have answered this before.
The emoticons are stored on your computer as .DAT files in that folder. But you can change them back to .gifs so that you can use them somewhere else.
1. First open the .DAT file in internet explorer
2. Then you should see the emoticon that the .DAT file contains. Right click and save this emoticon. You must save it as different name than the .DAT file.
3. Now open the file you just saved, again in internet explorer. You should see the emoticon again and now you can right click and save it as a .gif file.
Its a lengthy process but it works.
Hope this helps.i've done it its pretty simple really... ok well go here on ur comp :
C:\Documents and Settings\[your xp username]\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN Messenger\[your unique number]\CustomEmoticons
they'll be saved in a .DAT format so what i do is i copy and paste them to another folder then i change the extention (.DAT) to .GIF then you can use them. -

Make your life easier, forget the previous advices and use a program to grab all the emoticons for you...
Try BEAS manager which i found here, it is supposed to backup all your MSN emoticons. if this fails try the below program...
this page has MSN CE/DP Stealer v.2.0 which might do the trick.
disclaimer, i have not used either of these programs. -

im juz wondering.. if they are stored in .dat, when u add an emoticon, den it will be resized if its too big before saving right? so if i rename a .gif file to .dat and put it there, will it be used without being resized?
